Traxxas has, it called the Traxxas Summit. Also, they plushed up a Revo's suspension and locked the diffs. Both are impressive, but nowhere near the capability of a solid axle crawler.

PTI had a cantilever suspension on the Goliath. The Tamiya TLT sorta has a reverse canilever system.

You're referring to a cantilever suspension and yes, it has been done and works well. You have huge variety in the set up as you can adjust the position of the shocks and can modify the spring rates to those higher than what you can find available or conversely, you can make them softer than you can find available, you can increase the travel of shocks by modifying the pivot levers, you can have a ton more room for tires, ect. It works well, but that said, it is way more complicated to set up, troubleshoot, and fine tune. Here's an example:

Evo inspired JK

Cantilever suspensions is just a gimmick....
Especially on a crawler, why would you want to mount the shocks up higher, increasing center of gravity...
All cantilever suspension does is "look impressive".... no performance benefit at all.

While it can be made to work, cantilever is very tricky to get right. If it was the answer, more people would be doing it.

If you want to do it just to do it and have something different, go for it.

i've done it on a truck before, took some time to get it to work the way I wanted it to, but in the long run it's preaty much just for show. I didn't think I seen any improvment by doing the back that way.

Heyy those builds look familiar
I need to snap pics of how it sits now, doesn't really look like the same rig. In a good way.

Sorry but you are wrong. The canti setup on my jk is super smooth, actually absorbs bumps, can articulate as much as you like, and the center of gravity is actually probably the same or lower.

I think the main benefit of a cantilever suspension is that you can use much shorter shocks and retain the same (if not more) suspension travle throught the geometry oh the cantilever itself.
