Here ya go
  • Grind shock mount flat to cap
  • Drill 1/8" and Tap to 4mm
  • Get 12 -15mm m4 pan head screw
  • Make sure cap and screw are grease free
  • Add small amount of RTV silicone to bottom side of screw cap
  • Thread into cap from bottom side
  • Optional but recommended: install 4mm locknut on top of cap and tighten
  • Let RTV fully cure
  • Install revo rod end
  • Install revo balls in lower rod end
  • Limit shocks if necessary

Nabil has a short write up about drilling the eye hole out enough to slide a revo ball in and use a couple shock o-rings and washers to keep it centered. Not sure where but it's really easy and costs little.

Did it tonight. Tapping was a pain and one came out too big but with the silicone nut and bolt I figure it should be good.

What screw is everybody using to do this mod, I can't find a m4 x 15 pan head screw anywhere. Is there a different screw that can be used instead of a pan head since a lot of places don't even know what a pan head screw is.

If the extra length of adding the ball end is what youre after then this is great but if you dont want to make your shock longer then.....
1. with a Dremel and a milling bit enlarge the hole in the shock cap to fit what ever ball you want to use ,but you want the ball to fit tight or not quite fit in the hole.
2. use a small ball milling bit and your dremel to carve a channel in the center of the cap hole. go slow and do several passes until you have a indent all the way around the inside of the cap hole making sure the channel is centered.
3. enlarge the hole until you can get the ball insert into the hole. you want the outside of the hole ( on both sides) to be slightly smaller than the channel you just put in the hole so you can get a "snap" fit just like a shock cap that was designed to use a ball.

I just did this mod to a set of Traxxas big bores ,it took a little time but it seems to work great! I know this would be more easily understood with pics but the lake ate my camera yesterday.........

This seems like a good thread to ask this. I'm wondering how the shock cap mod affects the shock length.

I've been told the shock options are:
#2660 3.5"
#2661 3.75"
#2662 4"

Are those the true eye-to-eye max lengths of those shocks?
(Edit -- Traxxas told me that those dimensions are in fact center to center, not overall length. I haven't verified that yet.)

Then fitting the flush-grind / locknut / traxxas rod end, how much do you increase those lengths?
