I also found out the hard way, cut one and Damn now I thought I was screwed. Took a minute and Whammo! I cut it to the length I needed it, beveled both sides and slipped them both onto the male side and clamped it in my vice and welded all the way around it, smoothed it out on the bench grinder and a little bit of black paint and i'm back in business again. So you can fix this problem.

Why they sell shorter shafts.... As for the wide open female, wave it around like you just don't care. |

Now there's a business proposal! - Make long shafts where both the male and female parts are splined all the way. - Sell them at a decent price and have the customer cut it to the required length. (And/or offer to cut it for the customer, at an extra cost.) Making only one size should reduce the overall cost. |

| Re: driveshaft
Simple fix.....Not sure I can explain it in words... dremel a slot in the female side(90 to the tube), cut the depth to the depth of the male D. Insert a piece of 10 or 12 gauge sheet metal. Braze sheet metal in place. Grind excess off the exterior(for looks) and you have effectively created a new D shape inside the female tube. You can create any length shaft you want this way. It is also a great way to repair a shaft that may have broke the end of the D off. You will not have any alignment or wobbly driveshaft issues this way due to poor fitment since you are not trying to align two tubes together. |

Why not just put a grub through the side of the shaft or something?, or you could find a piece of rod or a bolt that fits into the female, cut it horizontally so it takes up that space, then screw it in with a grub or screw through the wall of the tube.. Lots of ways to fix it. |
