| can i use two links only on an axle?
I am building a crawler from scratch using wheely king axles, what will happen if i only have the links under the axle?Won't the shocks do the same job as the middle/upper links?

Not really, if you use only two links and have them on the bottom, your axle is going to wrap or rotate, the upper and lower links don't just work as articulation but also as to keep the axle from rotating on its self, kinda like how some 1:1 rigs have a control arm on their leaf sprung rigs, it's to keep the axle from rotating on itself, hope it makes sense lol

No, your axle will rotate and bend the shocks/ pop driveshafts out. 4-link, 3 link (y) , leaf springs. 4 link is the best.

Yes you can but you will need to mount the links to the axle in a different manner. People really shouldn't say that you cant do something unless they are really sure about it. 2 links are pretty common in the mini truck genre. There are 1:1 rock crawlers running 1 link setups as well. Last edited by Calderwood; 06-21-2011 at 03:32 PM. |

Control arms are different than a "2-link" and two lowers and a panhard seems like it wouldn't do the job properly. A 3-link, 4-link, control arms, or a 1-link are the way to go, 1-links have 3 or more axle mounts and one chassis mount, a set of control arms has 4 axle mounts and 2 chassis mounts. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Cole82 was building something for me, kinda, that may be of interest. Never did finish it I think. If he did, it's about time he coughed it up! EeePee's Bush with one link |

| Tracer type
I built a Tracer(no front suspension) type chassis and experimented with a 2 link rear design with some success but I could never match the performance of a 4 link.

Ahh OK.. looks like you would need to do quite a bit more then just mounting in a different manner to me.. I would not even really consider control arms the same as what we typically call links.. You do know there is a difference between not being able to do something, and doing something totally different then what was asked??

A 2 link is not a "TRUE" 2 link. The panhard bar is a link...is it not? Casey |

That is awesome scale work.. It looks almost real ... In a three link system, the Panhard bar is the third link. So technically the two link system show above (although very cool) is a three link. I think the one link systems (stingers) still require a panhard, making them two links

You can do anything you want, even become president someday........ You can build a 2 link but at least one of the lower links will have to attach to the axle in more than one location. Thus making it more of a "control arm" than a link (in laymans terms). I'm pretty sure you would have to have a panhard bar to locate the axle from side to side as well. |

Here is my setup. Front is just a 3-link with panhard. Rear is two lower links with panhard (But one of the rear links is a Y-link, meaning it connects to two spots on the axle which you must have to keep the axle from rotating) |
