| Weight reduction??
I want to try a few things in order to lower the weight of my rig. I currently run a berg tracer stock with 5oz to each front v2 wheels and no weight in the rear. Rig weights in at 6.6lbs with 1500mah battery. What can i do to lower the weight? I was thinking in going to 380 motors(with adapter) BUT will these 380 motors handle the 2.2 crawler? How much do 540 vs 380 weight? How much will i save if i move to plastic wheels vs aluminum? Bodyless vs "with body"?? Which axles are the lightest right now in the market apart from XR10s...prefer aluminum ones? |

Some generic things you could do to lighten any crawler: aluminum screws, ti links, carbon fiber bits. Those are the first things that come to mind. Each thing doesn't cut much weight but it starts adding up pretty quick. I wouldn't imagine that much weight would be saved going bodiless but as i said it does add up.

I wouldn't give up the power of a 540 motor for the weight savings over a 380. the power of a 380 just doesnt compare to a 540 when turing 5.5in tires. you could drill holes in your chassis, gears, machine down your axles, light weight plastic wheels, small esc(s), and use the evn smaller 850mah batteries. if you search for a build in the berg section there was a build that had very very light weight axles that were machined, I belive the builder was Jeepindoug. |

You would really be making big sacrifices by downgrading motors to 380s, and possibly by going plastic wheels. You will likely want to weight the fronts anyhow-depending on your style.

| +1...plus, it's usually easier to strip out the hexes on plastic rims. I would stick to the 540's just for the power. There were some nice small diameter motors that had a lot of power, but I believe they are discontinued.

Here is my build in the Berg section. I walk through almost every weight saving mod I know of (I still have a couple small things up my sleeve). Also, apart from the LCC I believe that my new Delrin axle housings will provide the lightest MOA axles on the market. Dlux Berg Build |

Why go plastic rims? I thought heavier wheels were a good thing (not too heavy) as you get a lower COG. Smaller capacity battery with a high C rating would be a good way. |
