| Custom Built 1:24 Micro Crawler - Stage 2 with 4WS! X-PEAK CRAWLER Custom Built 1:24 Micro Crawler - Stage 2 with 4WS! Stage 2 of my 1:24 scale micro crawler project. All original designs have been scrapped and a complete new chassis design has been built. It has been built fully from brass and copper, utilising a couple of hub & alloy wheel parts from a mini-z awd. the cage has been designed to fit all 1:24 range Rover Model Shells, although I am looking at making some vacuum formed lexan shells shortly. The bodyshell is a 1:24 model kit, cut up and modified to look more extreme. Hope you like it. ORIGINAL STAGE 1 - CLICK HERE > If anyone knows where I can get hollow 1:24 soft rubber tyres from (super swamper style), please let me know! Spec: - Custom 4wd self contained front & rear axles. - Twin Motors - 6v 60rpm - Torque: 4kg/cm - Brass Rod & Tubing Construction - Customised 3 Channel 4WS - FlySky FS-GT3B 2.4ghz radio System - 4WS using twin MG90s servos & Turnigy ON/OFF Channel Switch - Power: 4x AAA Cells - Mini-Z AWD Rims & Super Swamper Soft Urethane tyres - Total Weight = 520g 4WS ( 4 Wheel Steering): I made this by using a standard 3 channel transmitter/receiver (FS-GT3B), connected a Turnigy On/Off RX Switch connected to the 3rd CH on the receiver. The power was directed to the rear servo as normal however the signal wire was cut and connected to the front servo wire. The transmitter simple has a switch that turns the 3rd channel power to maximum & minimum position by pressing on/off. I used the Turnigy switch to use this 3rd ch to power on/off the rear servo. When powered ON, the front servo controls the rear. So you can either have front only, full steering or you can crab walk by turning full left or right and then switching off the 3rd CH. hope this info helps everyone looking for 4WS from a 3channel system. |

| Wow you are AMAZING! I got to say that is a whole lot of engineering packed into car that can fit on the palm of your hand, no small feat either |

| Thabnks for all the positive comments!
Thanks for all the positive comments! I dotn know anyone with a 1:10, but I will take some more photos to show the scale. Would love to make a 1:10 but using the same methods of brass soldering wont take the stress at that scale, would need to get into aluminium welding and it aint easy! Tried it, failed it. So far this is a keeper! Im getting approx 2 hours run time from the simple 4x AAA battery setup. Next step is to add some LED spot lamps to the roof rack and front bumper so i can run in the dark. Would love to try some mud crawling but the motor setup would just get clogged in 2 minutes, so purely rock crawling for me! The bodies are just 1:24 scale model kits such as the 'Italeri - Range Rover Rally' or 'NEO 18125 Range Rover' kits. Theres alot of 1:24 model kits on ebay. I am looking at making vacuum formed shells from a 1:24 Diecast Range Rover I have, again its something ive already tried and failed at, but im going to keep trying. |

That's a great bit of work! Not enough of the home fabricating going on in the UK - this is a good example of what we could possibly do! Nice video...I take it the tune is yours too? |

Hi I hope this thread is still alive! So crawlersmith, when you switch off the power to the rear steer don't the rear wheels just freely turn? If so is this an issue? I have the switch but don't wanna cut wires if its gonna cause me problems. Oh and by the way, I think your crawler is bad ass!

You can tell it's small when the bullet connectors are almost as tall as the tires!!

VERY COOL! It might be simpler to use a radio like Redcat supplies with their Sumo crawler, already setup for 4ws. Also could you send me a message with measurements for those axles, plus materials list if possible. I might consider duplicating it using aluminum axle "C"s and knuckles meant for the Losi Micro. On a side note; I would recommend trimming the bumpers more, and the fenders alot less, it is a little too extreme. Last edited by KnutKase; 08-04-2012 at 09:53 AM. Reason: Clarification |
