Actually the Tamiya Trail Master is a toy, meant to entertain young Rc'ers. The new Tamiya TLT-1 is a mini TXT-1. 4 wheel drive, uses a 540 motor, cantilever set up, and the option of 4 wheel steering.

I just buit a TLT-1 kit for the hobby shop.... It goes together real well, and has a lot of potential as a mini crawler.. If you're into the mini stuff,, you should definitly take a look at it.. Some of the guys at the shop are crawling the Kyosho mini-Z's... they're only 2 wd, but,, they have some after market parts available,,, ( wheels, tires, shocks, etc. ) to make them better at crawling ... Go give the TLT-1 a look at your favorite hobby shop ...

the tlt-1 is a great little truck, emphasis on the word little, tho. don't expect to be conquering some huge rocks or anything, but it will go over most anyhting smaller than a soda can, and i've had it climbing the huge snow piles outside my lhs. the stock ground clearance is not that high, but you can use any wheel with the tamiya hex drive, i replaced the stockers with stadium blitzer wheels, and midnight pumpkin tires. the only real drawback is that the center ball diff (while it makes a good slipper clutch) will unload when the truck wheelies, and since i have a 19 turn single and 18 tooth pinion.. my tlt wheelies often!! if you want to do serious crawling than the txt-1 is probably more the truck for you, but to cruise around the house and crawl thru the dog's dish, over your sneakers, or crush your buddy's micro rs4, than the tlt-1 is the truck to get. my pics: i ditched the stock body for a nikko hummer from toys r us. the back already flipped up, and i had to dremel out the trunk anyway, so it makes for an easy way to change the batteries. ![]() electronics: trinity 19t single, gm v3 sped control, airtronics switch reciever, associated servo (from my t4) ![]() bdr

They are alot smaller than MAXX tires...the truck is 1/18th scale, not 1/10th or 1/8th!

Sure the truck is smaller in scale and out of the box i would say that it does leave quite a bit to be desired. But with minor mods it would be better. FOr example you can replace the center ball diff with stampede parts to built a slipper clutch. The axles are more like the tamiya bruiser for you old school nuts. The second advantage is that using tamiya tractor trailer parts, you could add numerious drive axles, anyone thinking of a 6x6 or 8x8 here? My project is going to be much different. I plan on using the stock axles, with a tamiya semi 3 speed transmission and custom t-case. The frame will also be custom, but i do plan on using the stock shocks. Here is a mock up of the truck with the axles and tires. But i am a scale freak as you can see by this beast with diffs locking from the remote and a ton of other toys. Nate
