I have my old comp rig that would be considered a Sportsmen rig, named Mugsy the comp buggy

Homemade Cromoly Tube chassis
TLT axles with RCP CVD's and gears
Stealth tranny
HPI 4" shocks
tires and wheels change depending on use.

Currently its setup for a King of the Hammers style race called, King of the Bean.

Hey, Gotta question regarding the sportsman class. is their a guideline that says what can and can not be used in the sportsman class? I know that digs are not allowed and they have to be shaft driven. What else?

Max 12.5" WB, 2WS only, no DIG. Not sure if there's anything else

I know for Tube chassis there are minimum chassis dimensions as well.

these are the rules that we use at cANZ this year
2011 - Crawl ANZ Competition Class Regulations

1. General Class Regulations::

1.1 Vehicles are limited to 4-wheeled vehicles only for 2.2 classes. A maximum of eight ( driven wheels is allowed for Scale and Super classes. These wheels can be the only source of propulsion for the vehicle.

1.2 All vehicles must be electric powered only.

1.3 Bodied vehicles:
1.3.1 Any support chassis allowed (Except Scale Class).
1.3.2 Super & 2.2 Class bodies must be 76mm minimum height on sides.
1.3.3 No less than 317mm total length and full original width, and no less than 127mm across the centre (Except Scale Class)
1.3.4 All bodies should resemble its original form (Jeep bodies look like a Jeep)

1.4 Bodiless vehicles:
1.4.1 Must be a self-supporting, structurally complete, rigid frame.
1.4.2 2.2 Class Overall bodiless dimensions must be 203mm long, 76mm wide and 95mm tall.
1.4.3 Super Class Overall bodiless dimensions must be 305mm long, 76mm wide and 95mm tall.
1.4.4 The roof must be raised a minimum of 25mm from the main chassis to resemble a cockpit.
1.4.5 The frame sides must be an overall minimum of 25mm tall.
1.4.6 Bodiless vehicles should resemble a 1:1 vehicle.
1.4.7 Bodiless vehicles must have solid bonnet panel, solid roof panel and a minimum of 2 solid side-panels.

1.5 If at any point during a run your vehicle falls out of the vehicle specs for its class, for any reason, you will be required to take a touch penalty and correct the problem.

2. 2.2 Sportsman Class:

2.1 Vehicle wheelbase is limited to a maximum of 317mm.

2.2 Vehicle is limited to 2.2 inch wheels/rims or smaller at the bead surface. Tires may be modified from other sized tires using only a pliable rubber but must not exceed a total uncompressed outer diameter of 152mm.

2.3 Steering linkages are to be in front of the forward axle only. This includes the servo horn, steering links and steering knuckles. BTA (Behind the axle) and OTA (over the axle) steering configurations are not allowed.

2.4 Any combination of Radio and onboard electronics may be used; however, the only control the Driver is to have over the vehicle is for throttle and steering. You cannot control any other functions, either mechanically or electronically.

2.5 Vehicles must be shaft driven only and powered by a single motor, no MOA (motor on axle) axles are allowed.

Here are a few of mine:

Just a basic GC3A with built axles and trans, 16T Brood motor, mamba micro pro and 3s lipo. Our sportsman trucks run the same courses as the 2.2 pro trucks......I took 1st place in 2.2 pro this past weekend and I did better on these courses with my sporty truck than I did with my berg!
