Default Justin's workshop "OVERHAUL"...

I bought my house this year, been living in apartments and etc for ever. Now I don't have to work about making holes in the walls and etc. I plan on taking some vacation next week and decided to overhaul my shop, I hope my shop looks half as good as Harley's. Its currently pretty cluttered and not too well organized. I plan on adding a lot of shelf's and add a way bigger workbench.

Before pics...

Here is the design I am going with, designed it up in CATIA to play around with the dimensions and etc. CATIA manikins FTW!

Here is my progress so far, still a bit more shelf's to make but I am getting close. Man, I never thought I was going to get my shop back together, it was a big messy pile for a few days there.

Justin,
Paint the walls behind the shelving it makes a big difference out in the shop for workspace lighting and just in general.
The redo looks great.

Thanks buddy. I haven't decided on color just yet, good idea. I also want to make a border on the wall that is the RC4WD Roxlox's tire pattern, hope it looks cool.

nice work with the CATIA model ! I have a current student version that I'm struggling with. I know that you can import a file to replace the default 'human model' with, I just haven't gotten that far with it.

X2 and cant forget the bright photo both section also. If you like to show ff your stuff that is. I wouldnt go white every where though cause with bright lights just above your head it might be to much glare for long wrenching hours. awesome shop though makes my little hole in the wall look pathetic

Great job on the overhaul, i only wish i had that much room..

By the way i went with a light gray in eggshell to keep the glare down.

Can't wait to see it done.

I was thinking about 6"-8" wide.

Thanks! I used the Manikin workbench, you can move all its joints, height/weight and all sort of manufacturing testing.

Love the new layout.
I'm currently making some sketches of my new layout, i got a 18' x 20' room and well i need to use my imagination to fill it up
I like the shelf idea how it comes up and over the work bench. What ply did you use? I see it's 3/4" but the species ?

Wow, that is truly inspirational Justin. I really need to do something like that to organize my garage and make better use of the 10' ceiling in it.

Great work. You make it look easy, I can do metal but wood scares me.

Thanks sir! Good luck on your layout.

The shelf's have 1/4" plywood and the bench top has a nice finished 5/8" plywood (don't remember the wood type or if its really 3/4") . For some reason when I went to Home Depot the 3/4" was $37 for a 4'x8' sheet, but the thicker stuff was only $26. I think the stuff I used was a uncommon size or something....I don't care....its was cheaper.

Thanks Ernie! Yep, the chevy is just sitting stripped. I am waiting to put it back together for a WARCRC TTC event this August.

Thanks buddy! After seeing Harley's shop, it got me thinking how much my shop was messy. I really like the shelf's too, it will really clean up things in the garage.

As for making it look easy....it wasn't. I only had my GF helping me hold up shelf's while I screwed them in. But putting up temporary blocks on the wall for the shelf to rest on while I screwed it in....really help.

Good luck on your shop.....lets see a build thread.

It will take me a couple months to get done what you did. I just finished organizing our basement and that took 7 years.

The garage is next so I can make some room to work on the 1:1 Guido. You have given me some great ideas.
