Help! Aluminum chassis thickness ? I have tried searching and it's been very hard to find this out. I have a Tamiya hummer and I have seen some of the builds and I really would like to try and make my own chassis. How thick should the aluminum be? I first though about .125 for the added weight. Is this to thick/thin? I ask about weight since I've seen some talk about scale weight and some of the talk was a heavy rig acts or behaves more realistic. Thanks |
Re: Help! Aluminum chassis thickness ? If you are just looking for plates for the frame rails, I probably wouldn't go thicker than 1/8" (.125"). If you want to do channel, that is different. How are you going to attach stuff to the aluminum? A lot of guys use steel "C-channel" since you can braze or weld to it. You can also use steel box section & cut in 1/2 for "C-channel". |
Re: Help! Aluminum chassis thickness ? I was thinking of just doing a flat pan chassis since I plan on using the front and rear diif from my Tamiya Hummer. They bolt unto a tub chassis. This is my first go at modifing of this sort. I am impressed with work that is done here. I'm stilling finding ideas here so I might change my mind. |
Re: Help! Aluminum chassis thickness ? 1/8" is fine (1/4" if you're a basher:mrgreen:) |
