Default Stock Transmission Help

Greetings RCC.

Several days ago I noticed my week-old RTR Honcho has a "jumpiness" to it, similar to a 1:1 rig slipping a clutch, mainly at 1/4 throttle (right in the crawling range.) I thought it was the motor I bought and soldered in, but after 4 days of hair-pulling and troubleshooting, I finally believe the culprit is my transmission.

Can anyone shed any light on why the stock Axial transmission would feel as though it was severely oscillating inside? I am weary of taking it all apart just yet.

A humble TIA.

EDIT: I just realized my browser did not reset my page. This thread was intended for the Axial SCX10 sub-forum. I apologize, perhaps the moderators can move my thread as I cannot delete it.

I would check to make sure each wheel is solid to the other wheel on the axle (checking for a bad diff or CVD), check in various spots during a full turn of a wheel.
Then check an axle to the motor, this checks the driveshaft and input gears in the trans.
Then check an axle to the other axle.

All should be done in different spots as you rotate a wheel or axle.

You may have stripped 1 or more teeth in a gear, thus the jumpiness.

X2 on checking your axle diff's you might have spun the iron cross in the case...

as for the tranny there is nothing to it you might have taken some teeth of the idler gear and or have something hanging up the gears.

I would pull it out and you us one on these links and a clean work space and check it out and relube and go from there...

AX90014 / AX90016 - SCX10 w/Trail Honcho Body

AX90022 - SCX10 Honcho RTR

You really should take the time to check out the tranny and maybe even upgrade it while you are in there. It is super simple and easy to take out and take apart. The experience will only benefit you down the road!

Thanks for all the helpful replies everyone!!!

I just went ahead and tore the transmission out and re-built a few times till I found the lube setting I wanted. Seems to have fixed for now.

Thanks again for going easy on me! I'll learn soon enough...
