Pooler Point - Pooler, GA

Greetings, fellow crawlers!

Due to the military always throwing me all over the world, I was recently moved to Savannah, GA. I live in the smaller town of Pooler, which is a few minutes away.

When I settled in and unpacked my crawler, I began to search around for people to meet up with and get back into the sport. I also tried to find a place to take my AX-10. Unfortunately, I could find neither.

I changed my search tactics and started trying to find all of the logging trails and dirt roads I could and search a bit. Lo and behold, 5 minutes from my house, I found a housing development that apparently owns some land that was never built on. In the trees on an old logging trail just off of the main road, I found this:

I call it: Pooler Point!

Just for scale sizing, you can barely make out my AX on the top of the crest in the center of the pic. It's a good size for messing around on.

It also has a natural V-Notch, which is super touchy with the sand...

Oh snap! It's not perfect, but it's got some potential and it's the only thing I've found so far. I got a little excited.

I started messing around a little bit, but the sand is really tough. I'm after the rocks! Sadly, the coastal area of Georgia doesn't have any rocks, so my search continued...

On a site that I discovered and will remain unmentioned, they have a dump site for rocks, cinder blocks, busted up concrete, and old road asphalt. I did a little recon and found exactly what I needed. I busted my ass and filled my truck with all I could easily get to without spending too much time there.

I unloaded my cargo and started making some runs and filling it in with dirt and sand to reduce the shifting from weight and settling. Sadly, I ran out of daylight before I could take some pictures... More to follow, so stay tuned!!

First off, THANK YOU for fighting for our freedom!! Secondly I think you hit the jackpot man, nothing beats having a "comp" style crawl area in your backyard. Keep us posted.....with pics:mrgreen:

Thank you for your support.

Definitely will keep everyone posted. I'm super pumped about this. Today, I will be back out after work to do some fine tuning on what I have so far so I can see my next steps.

Too bad your not closer to Atlanta, lots more rocks and people. On the same note though there is at least two maybe three guys from Florida that are members of the local rock crawlers of atlanta RCA. They drive up for almost every comp or scale get together. Its flat down there, only mud trucks, so they make the drive.

Stone mountain is one place you have to crawl, it's huge.

Okay, so yesterday I went out and did a bit of work and took my crawler on it for a while. Here are the pictures...

This is to the left of the V-Notch.

This is to the right.

And a shot from back a bit.

Overall, I think it looks pretty good. However, when I rolled my crawler at it, I found that it was WAY too easy. Since I didn't dig anything out and tried to run on the natural slope, the asphalt made it extremely high-traction with too little challenge.

When I go again tomorrow, I will have to take a shovel and dig out the bottom of the slope and re-align the asphalt to have less of a smooth path.

More to follow after I get a chance to work on it.

Really? Only mud trucks down here? I guess I should put mud tires on my Berg then. :flipoff:

There is a decent spot in Jacksonville FL as well, much better than what you were dealt with where you are at. We are kinda limited down here though. G-ville is one of the best along with the spot way down in Miami.

I have been put on night shift for the next two weeks, so I doubt I'll be getting to work on this any time soon. I'll have more pictures to post when I get back on days.
