Default New zzmt build

I started a new build and thought I would try and post progress pics as I go.

Here's what I'm starting with.

Mock up for w/b.

Tear down.

Beginnings of chassis hack.

I'm a little farther along than the pics show but I always run into trouble taking clear close-up pics of this tiny stuff. My camera just can't handle it.

try using the macros option on your camera for the closeups. it's the little flower looking icon/button. it will make them come out to be very clear.

Lengthened the driveshaft and did a little more hacking. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Yep, I still do. Always wanted a radio controlled one so now I'm making them myself.

Got most of the front end done. It would be a PITA to attach a pinion to the planetary reduction motors I had planned on using for steering. The reduction was 20:1 on the motor x whatever the stock reduction was. My 3 gear mod puts the reduction at @200:1 if I remember correctly so I'm sticking with that for now.

Stock cover plate for steering assy.

Trimmed bottom of motor slot flush and reduced nubs where pins fit by about 1/2 top and bottom.

Shaved down 3 gears for steering. Remove material to thickness of gear and shave backside of gear flush as well. Basically just making as much room as possible to fit 2 extra gears w/o compromising gear mesh area.

Pic with stock gear for comparison.

Gears added ready to be installed.

Back together again.

Installed suspension lockouts and did some more trimming for better clearance as well as a smooth bottom, cause who doesn't love a smooth bottom?

Then I attacked the turning radius.

Trimmed where circled to get a little more throw

To get this

Which left me with this for steering throw.

Not good enough!

So I attacked the drive cups with an angle grinder and a deburring rosebud to get this

Which gave me this

Better

Thanks. I'll take it off your hands for parts if you've still got it.

Watch ebay for one. You could pick up something else and swap in the electronics too.

Haven't done much with the tiny stuff up until now. Guess I kind of needed a break from it for a while. Got laid off so I've got some time on my hands as well which helps I guess.:-?

As far as the build's going I'm trying to run a lithium ion battery out of a bluetooth but the battery may be shot. I'm going to try charging it for a while and see if it comes back.

Default used batts

There is a site called rcgroup and they have a battery section with alot of heli and plane batts on there and I know I've seen groups of those small batts on there for cheap since they are used in the small helis. Just a thought I'm a used kinda guy. Great build and can't wait to see it going. Keep it up.

Thanks, I'll check into it. I ordered that one from Canada. It was the only place I could find with the right size and mah.

Made some progress.

Take one new se chassis.

Remove pcb and battery.

Hack off front end.

Remove top cover and steering motor.

Trim till you have this left over.

Voila! One stupid low reduction box.

Did some preliminary body mock up as well.

It will sit higher and farther back than the second pic shows but you get the idea.
