Default MIP cross pin set screw

So I just bought the MIP CVD kit for my SCX10...
here: MIP Spline Center CVD Kit, Axial SCX10

and unless I'm missing something, I didn't receive the shorter of the 2 set screws included with this kit, those that go in the cross pins, here:

MIP 3/32 x 5/8 Replacement Cross Pins (4) for 1/8, X-Duty and Monster Truck Kits

So uhh yea, I need to know what size/diameter/type of set screw I need.

I can't remember exactly which one is which, but here's the 2 sizes that come in the pack.:
99031 SHSS/ 8-*‐32 X 1/8 Cup Point (
99032 SHSS/ M4 X 5 Cup Point (

As you can see, one is metric, and one is standard. Check and see which set of allen wrenches fits what you have, and that'll tell you which one you're missing.

Wow, glad somebody knows that.

Leave it to MIP to go mixing standard and metric hardware. I hate it when my rigs are half one and half the other.

I know the setscrews that retain the MIP's to the axial outputs are 4mm diameter.

If your SCX is the newer style your going to want Traxxas through pins for a Revo joint. The new through pin'ed Axial shafts don't have flat spots for the setscrews to bite.

Yea, I was just looking into that as well. I noticed that there are only 4 set screws included for the Revo joint, and I do have the newer SCX10 with the WB8 driveshafts, so I'll definitely want the Traxxas through pins. Could you give me any direction as to where I can find those 4mm through pins?

Traxxas part# 5189 I think, mine were laying around extra from an E-maxx.

They are a little long, so I cut about 3mm off of the "pin" portion so it wouldn't stick through the other side. If you wanted to be all OCD on it then you could cut it short enough to just fit through the pinion shaft, and then use the plain 4mm setscrew on the other side.

The only rig I have sporting MIP's is the Wraith, it it needed red loc-tite on every threaded surface to stay together.

And if your running longer than stock shocks, make sure the MIP's don't bind at full droop.

Hey thats a great idea, thanks! I'm going to do that lol

Lastly, found what I am missing from my MIP kit
TowerHobbies.com | 99031 MIP Cup Point 8-32x1/8 (

Too bad Tower doesn't have it, they're within a days shipping time of me. Guess I'll have to contact MIP and see if they'll send me replacements, though I'll have to wait another week because they're in California.
/end rant.

I use blue in case I want to take it back apart. But yes, loctite is a MUST to keep these things together.

Under normal use blue is probably all that is required to keep the MIP's together.

However, every metal to metal fasteners required red loc tite to stay together on my Wraith. From the lower trans gear screws, to the setscrews in my lockers, to ring gear bolts, to motor mount screws. I'm convinced that the Wraith platform is just hard on parts with it's big tires, extreme steering angle, and in most cases way more than plenty of power.

As long as you have good allen drivers taking the Red loctited bolts apart isn't that bad...

Not sure if this is related but I just installed set of mip shafts in my wraith and I stripped the crosspin that attaches the driveshaft to the pinion output on the axle...any way to get crosspin out? I also used blue Lottie like an idiot....
