Default Carter Fab & Machine Custom Scaler Axle Housings

Been making myself custom axle housings for a little while now. Decided to post up where I can show all of them and maybe someone will request something that I have not thought of yet. I'm a bit of a scaler nut and had to do something about the lack of axle options. The AR OCP 60 housings are what started this little obsession.

First set I made were the "Titan 60" housings. They are a hybrid with an aluminum center section and steel axle tubes. The axle truss and link mounts are all welded so there are no more eye sores of screws passing through the tubes messing up the scale factor. Diffs are also shaved for extra clearance. I can run a 5.5" tire with the boys running the 6" tires and have the same diff clearance without sacrificing C.OG. Also wanted a way to get all the weight out of my wheels and still have it down low. Completed.

Here is the difference in the shaved diff compared to a stock diff cover

This set I'm working on are the "Ultimate 9's". Using RC4WD Black Widow third members. The front has steel tubes and is standard diff offset. The rear uses aluminum tubes and is an extreme offset rear diff. Similar to W.E.ROCK housings. The front will use Wraith steering components and axle shafts. Work in progress.

And of course the purple bearing caps

Almost done with the front now. Machined the bearing pockets into the tubes today. Installing VP c-hubs and "?" brand aluminum knuckles.

Then I decided that with all the southern buggy builds going on, they needed a proper axle housing. Hence the "BlackRock 60" housings. Modeled after the 1:1 housings found on "Hell Raiser" using Rockwell centers and Dana 60 tubes and outers. Will be Wraith width using Wraith axle shafts. The front will use the Wraith steering assembly. Steel tubes up front, aluminum out back. Both diffs offset. Work in progress.

Starting with theses gems and then gonna hack them up

I have also done a few custom centered Wraith housings.
Here is a full plastic housing and used 2 stock axle trusses to make the upper link mount. The way I machine the tubes to be reassembled is very strong. It is similar to the way I narrow Blast wheels. It takes 2 long axle shafts to make the new shafts and have found that depending on what style locker you run, the shafts may or may not have to have a c-clip mod to them to replace the factory inner lip on the shaft. If you use a clamping style locker you don't need it. The most recent set I made have a "home made" steel locker and they did not require it.

This is the most recent housing that is a hybrid. It uses the plastic center section and aluminum tubes. The center diff has been shaved and plated. Once painted, you'll never know its a hybrid. Also will be using the new VP AX-10 axle truss for upper links.

Turned down the OD of the ring gear to clear shaved belly.

Modified 2 long shafts for new housing

Got the VP bearing caps and the VP AX-10 axle truss in. Axle is complete and ready for its new home.

Thanks for looking

I had Clay build me up a Centered Wraith rear axle a couple months ago and let it slip out of my hands.

I have another build in mind and he is fabbing up another Rear Centered axle for me (pictured above).
Alot of custom work involved and Clay knows how to work with his customers and machines!

Not sure on the direction of my build but it will involve an EXO front IFS!

I forgot about the VP Axial AX10 truss that will be going on this too

I'll post up the finished assembly tonight with the VP stuff coming in.

And for those interested in having work done, I have no problem trading labor for parts. Just so long as I'm not out any actual money.

Haha no. These have still got some time to go. The "Ultimate 9's" are on the chop block now but they are almost done and ready to be shipped off to have everything welded up.

That centered housing is absolutely delicious. There is some nice fabbing going on in Tejas regarding these trucks.

Appreciate it. But just wait. Just got off the phone with the next axle job and it's another first.

Pretty much custom quote. Haven't done any job the same way twice yet.
Pricing usually starts around $75 for one housing. That's just the machine work and assembly. Doesn't include any purchased parts that may be needed.

Plastic centered diffs are the cheapest. They run $50 for machine work and assembly. Does not include purchase of housings or axle shaft mods.
