I have used ATF fluid and used hydraulic jack oil and never had an issue with it Now for speeding up or slowing down piston travel I use rc silicone oil which is specified for our shocks |

When it comes to rock crawler, which is better speed or slow the piston?

For what you posted about your setup I would try in the 30wt to 50wt range.

I ran 70wt up front and some 1000wt diff oil in the rear. It worked pretty good but I'd go with a little thinner fluid though.
