Default Gap jumper?

Im looking at building something that will jump gaps and was hoping someone could give me some info on what things to do to make this happen. I have seen some of the crawlers that can do this but would like some of the specs of the rigs you all know of that can do it. I also want it to be a shafty. Please give me ideas or links to help me get this build going.

Thanks
Jason

I dunno what a shafty is but, wraith would be the way to go, good for bashing, crawling, hill climbs and takes a good beating

shafty = a rig with a transmission. thus using drive shafts to spin the axles. as opposed to a motor on axle rig where there is no tranny.

i would say a wraith would be your best bet for gap jumping. then again, what size gaps are we talking about?

your gonna want wheel speed for that. so i would say, if going brushed, a nice 35t motor with a good esc. (fxr, mmp, ect) and using lipo packs with a high C rating

For any kind of gap jumping you'll need a semi light rig. Not a 10lb brick.

Ooh shafty hah I get it now, makes sense, I run a wraith vp link set steering to with traxxas vxl on 3s with the drop shock kit on it, does amazing for bashing and jumps and hill climbs

Somewhere there is a vid of a shafty comp rig from a few years back hopping gaps from a standstill. Is that what you're thinking of?

Duuude.. at the end of that vid is the kind of stuff im talting about.

I want to be able to do that but not lose the ability to crawl well.

I have a 30t puller on 6s I was going to use but the 6s might be to heavy. I dont have any brushless exp as of yet because Im kinda old school since I have been into rc stuff for 25yrs. Are the brushless setups lighter and have the lowend power I need? I would also like to know what tires have the best hook up for launch, mostly sandstone rock around here.

Im a builder, I dont want a wraith and v84x4's byb is to much for me lol.

thanks
jason

The only answer I can give you is that for crawling, brushed is still the way to go for low speed smoothness.

For everything else, I don't know. I've managed to hop a few, but didn't have any specific setup for it.

guess I should read your tags before posting haha I have a scaler axial based with 13 double turn that likes to jump gaps and still crawls, just volt up and low turn motors works for me. just get sticky compound tires and bring extra parts

That's a wheelie.

You must have it geared way down. My 10 lb rig would flip over on a hard 2nd gear launch. And snap axle shafts. And destroy panhard bars.

I have it geared as low as I can get it (and keep the spur cover) but that was only partial throttle... it'll flip if I punch it.

Where we crawl, jumping is inevitable......or, you can drive a long way around to get where the next gate is.

Here is a video of me running a course that required a jump at about the 1:00 mark:

ok.. I have a good idea of what I want. I have material on the way for the frame, I have 2 savox 400+ oz servos on the way. I plan on using hh 35t puller on 6s with fxr esc. I will be using twinforce axles(super shafty) bomb proof axial trany(super shafty) -his slipper setup. So I just need to figure out what tires would be best. I think 2.2 irok's but open to other ideas. Let me know what you all think. Im shooting for a 7-8 lbs rig but will try to go lighter if posible.

thanks all
