How do I make my SCX less "jumpy"

The title says it all, i've pondered at the idea of lead weights added to the frame, in a similar distribution as a regular truck.


Has anyone got any input or should this be good to go?

(I'm talking about adding 4-5 lbs to the truck.)

Beef tubes and knuckle weights. Felsenfest spools. This all gets the weight really down low. Then start playing with chassis weight to mimic 1:1 movement if desired.

Some heavy wheels will probably help. Aluminum with fat Beadlock rings.

How do you mean less jumpy? Bouncy? Throttle jumpy? Springs too soft an the body bounces all over an throws you off?
Easier ways to get weight, like said above, then just dropping it on ur truck rails an on ur drive train..

For most it would be, steel bumpers, sliders,(from Bent Metal Works, is my stuff) a hard body, scale points, etc.. not just flopin it on ur chassis rails.. just my thoughts on it.. depends on what you do with it

If you are talking bouncy like when you hit the throttle, you can also try mirroring the xmsn. I did that and it made a huge difference. But like winnerone23 said, we kinda need a little more info on what you mean by jumpy.

Like others have asked, please clarify "jumpy". Does "jumpy" mean twitching as you apply throttle or steering? Or does "jumpy" mean bouncing while simply driving, or trying to conquer an obstacle?

Twitching is, more than likely, electronics. Bouncing while trying to conquer an obstacle is better remedied with foam tuning and shock tuning. Bouncing while simply driving can be tricky to deal with. In my opinion, weight in the wheels would help, as well as shock tuning and maybe foam tuning. Keep in mind that adding weight (and potentially too much) to solve the bouncing while driving can adversely affect the crawling performance.

Either way, share the situation in which you are experiencing the "jumpy". Also, share your rig's set-up.

My advice would be to NOT add the 4-5 pounds like you are proposing.

By jumpy, I'm talking about when the truck is stuck, and you go open throttle and it just jumps around, I mean, I want it to have the weight to bite down into the rock. Just like a 1:1 Really.

I suppose the best way to explain what I am trying to achieve is a 1:10 weight of a 1:1

Are ur wheels or tires vented? What tires? What foams? What shocks? What springs? A pic of ur rig would help..
Wheel weights help bite but hurt drive train.. knuckle weights, beef tubes, softer foams maybe, vent ur wheels if there not.. how much weight is up top?
Some hop when you throttle out, just happens.. some times its the only reason you make it out.. some tiMEa ya just have to slow down an let ur tires do the work.. still need more info on rig setup..

Everything is stock, I've vented the wheels and am running 2.2 Flat Irons, I go slow enough, but it still hops around, I'm looking for scale handling. For Foams I am running the stock memory foams that come with the Flat Irons.

But yeah, everything is stock, and the rig weighs 7.1 lbs.

have you moved your battery lower?
If no, do that and add weight to your wheels... start with a 1-3 oz.

Like said b4 move weight lower I wouldn't add weight to the wheels but to the axles themselves sounds like u need more unsprung weight to me

I'd be looking at suspension. Swap out to a semi droop set up with external springs for compression and small inner springs inside the shock for extension.

With no down travel you'll just pick wheels up and bounce, with no calving or springs to control down travel you'll just tip and flop.

On my cell so don't have a reference pic of the shock. I'm sure someone will be able to post one though

I have some presegmented lead that is pretty easy to apply around a wheel:


Keep in mind that as you add more weight your drivetrain starts to suffer. if you add 4-5 lbs it will be brutal on your drivetrain and you can plan on sucking a lot of battery.

If you are going to bulk up I would look at some some Vanquish axle shafts and metal driveshafts. Let me know what length you neeed is those are too short because have a few that I still need to add to the store.

Are your rims vented? Just curious.

And as it has been said, suspension plays a huge role in how your truck reacts.
Is it 100% spring? 50/50 sprung droop? Playing around with those things will give you some options and it can be pretty fun (and educational) to tune.

For what it is worth, my truck is 9lbs 6oz when dry.

Anyways, Can you explain what presegmented lead is?

My rims are vented, and I have a 60/40 droop setup. But it just seems like it wants to hop up the rocks.

What I mean is, it gets stuck too damn much on the simplest of rocks.

Perhaps the full spec list on your truck might help you get it tuned via PC.

So what shocks, shock oil and springs are you running?

Are your tyres vented? with what foams?

Weight "can" help, proper suspension set up will help more. If your truck is light, set the suspension up accordingly.
