Default Budget of 1k what scaler would you build, chassis for a D90 maybe?

I build RC things because I am disabled and it kills time and keeps my mind busy. I don't really drive what I build and usually just end up selling the rigs. I've been building MRC based L-Trale rigs for a while now and I'm bored with them on. I want to build something new.

I've got a budget set of 700-1000 total and want to build something real fun. I've looked at the Tamiya Hilux, F-350, Bruiser, RC4wd Bruiseruptor, Trailblazer 2 and a few others i forget. I'd really like to build something with the motor up front this time, possibly with leafs? I love the look of the Trex axles.

I have contemplated the idea of a hardbody Defender 90. But I feel like they've been done to death. I love them in 1:1 though...

Resale value is somewhat an issue as I'll likely end up selling it. Sorry I'm a rc whore. Since kids these days can't build their own RC stuff (except crawlers! ) I sell RTR packages.

What would you guys build right now. I've been browsing rcrcrawler and scale4x4 and can't decide really. I feel like the RC4wd chassis' are a bit overpriced for their performance except the trailblazer...

My last few builds:
An exo (fun to build!:

MRC L-Trail based FJ40:

MRC L-Trail based Bronco

I have a hacked and shortened SCX-10 lying around that used to be for this Unimog. Its usable for this project as well. In fact I wouldn't mind reworking the SCX10 frame and building this 406 a chassis it deserves...

What would you guys build with a 700-1000 budget including Servo and Powertrain? I'm willing to budge a bit on price if its a shelfqueen keeper. Is the Defender Hardbody played out?

I was originally going to build a Gelande D90, I think they look great when they're done properly and I don't think I've seen two that look the same yet. You could always do the D90 or 110 that's modified (lifted, boggers, King shocks) and make the purists cry lol.

That Exo came out nice, I like the color!

I'd do a d110 if i were building a shelf queen right now.

Just don't do a hilux lol. But try a hardbody. They're fun!

Maybe a new bright jk? In a GCM cross canyon chassis for the motor up front part. Super scale with 1.9 dirt grabbers. That'd be sweet.

I dunno those are about the only 2 achievable things on my dream list at the moment.

Btw its trail FINDER.

Also, steer clear of the gelande kit. You'll never resell it. Anybody who has owned a gelande will tell you it gave them nothing but troubles.

Also get k44s or cast Yota axles instead of TRex 60's. You'll break the 60's haha.

Are there any other off-the-shelf options for LR bodies??

RCModelEX makes a d90 chassis. I'd go TF2 though.

since I was a kid I was a fiend for Toyota Pickups and Jeep Scramblers.

Some folks will say D90's and the Hilux bodies are played but I have to say, it's HOW you do it.

I used to cringe anytime I'd see an LR3 "scaler." Guys just don't really wheel them. That is until I saw heinie_21's. He did such a great job on it, by not going crazy. It's one of my Favorite rigs.

So...for me, here we go...

Trailfinder 2 $400
D90 Body $79.99
Hitec 5645 MG servo $43
2x Gmade VR01 Beadlock wheels $25
1.9 Trailbusters $50
Tekin Motor/ESC combo $150
Hitec HS-322 standard servo for shifting $10

Now I'd take the D90 body and chop the grille area out and set it back a bit to start the transformation into a Series III or Series IIa.

Even better, get a Holmes Hobbies BRXL WP esc and and 35T handwound motor for a little bit more...

I will say I think your 110 pickup is super cool too. So if landys are your thing Daign, then the 110 is my vote!
