Default Benchmarks for comparison

I was wondering if anybody has thought of a benchmarks or standards we could all use to test our crawlers against. 8O Minimum requirements any crawler should be able to handle. Example= crawling over a railroad tie, over milk crates zip tied together, and so on.

Something most of us has access to and is fairly standardized.

It would be fun to be able to test our crawlers against something until we could met face to face.

I was looking more for a field test than a static one

Me and my friends have always used curbs (about 5 1/2 to 6") to test out crawlers... if they can climb a curb its ok... but if it cant then you need another design...

The only problem with setting a benchmark or set testing ground is that one truck may lack where another may excell.
Some trucks are good at some things but not as good as another at others ,so you can never get a complete comparison untill you get on the competition scenario.
In a full competition if the track is set out correctly there will be a wide and varied aray of things to test everyones truck and driver(lets not forget that very important person)The truck and driver that is most capable over the most amount of tests is ussually the winner.

Right,
there are simply too many variables. Even the surface of the road you are using can have a big effect....like.....concrete vs. asphalt. Is the curb painted? That would make it slick.
Competition is the only real way to set benchmarks and to see which truck and driver is best.....and even then, it's not accurate. Is the driver hung over that day? Did he forget his glasses? What type of terrain does the truck excel at? That's why we have to have a long running competition that lasts a whole year or so and on several different terrains.

What if we all used something like cinder blocks? They are all the same size and such. Or I will just go back to playing with my maxx.

That sounds good

Most of the replies so far seemed to have missed my point.

I was just trying to find something’s we could all test our crawlers against that was fairly consistent to others. Its not like going to go in our backyards and build an obstacle course, then declare yourselves KING OF ALL CRAWLERS

Something a little more dynamic than a ruler on my shop bench

What about being able to crawl straight up stairs without turning? Seems that is a pretty good thing to try.

Seriously, stairs would be tough. All the stairs around my house (outside) have a severe under cut that makes them almost impossible to climb without using the wall next to them.
The kids have a 12" diameter ball I climb straight over. That's kind of fun cause it's a moving target. Still not much for comparison.
I like the cinder block idea, but it's not tough to climb over with one set of tires, but I'd imagine driving straight over it would be a pretty good challenge.
