Is sand bad for RC's? Hey guys, new to the hobby and buying a Axial Scx10 in next couple days. I was thinking of doing some beach runs with it and was curious what effects sand had on an RC truck. Is there any major downsides to running in the sand? Thanks guys. p.s did a quick search on this topic to no avail. |
Re: Is sand bad for RC's? nah, just clean the sand out of the trans/axles once in a while. |
Re: Is sand bad for RC's? Sand can be pretty abrasive stuff. After a run with my foff truck i give everything a good clean out and occasionally strip the axles and transmission. |
Re: Is sand bad for RC's? Salt water is your biggest enemy when running on the beach. It's really corrosive. Clean your rig with fresh water after running on the beach or you will regret it. "thumbsup" |
Re: Is sand bad for RC's? clean out the sand and bath it in wd40. that's all you have to do |

Re: Is sand bad for RC's? Agreed with all the above, Just make sure you wash all the sand and salt water out asap. |
Re: Is sand bad for RC's? Hey These guys are spot on. Salt will DESTROY a truck, and much quicker than you would think. Even if you are running it at the beach on the sand a ways away from the water you should still hose the whole thing down. Good Luck, Have fun. |
Re: Is sand bad for RC's? No matter what sand and salt will destroy your car, just the salt in the air will start to corrode things. I went crawling on the beach not through thick sand just on a rock and a week later my steel screws started rusting and corroding more so. Better to just scrub it at least and wd40"thumbsup" |

Re: Is sand bad for RC's? Keep wd40away from tires, it'll break down the rubber compound... I doubt it's good for plastic either. You can spray down all the metal bits with CowRC Moo Slick. That'll give you a protective layer from salt and make it easier to clean. |
