Default r2d to r2 conversion

it seems this can be done with a new shaft and removal of the dig. i got a used r2d in tade awhile ago it was really just a case and gears. so what i have is the case two gears bushings and pins to hold the gears. if i just bought a short or long shaft i should be good right? i searched but didnt find much

thanks
