Hay, has anyone done a front dig mod on these? If so hook us up with the info.

For those that don't know "front dig is when the rear tires lock up or disengage so the front tires can pull you around an obstacle.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that REAR dig? letting the rear wheels dig in? I dunno. :p

If you have a 3 channel radio you could wire up a small servo that turns off a microswitch inline on one of the rear motor leads to accomplish a dig.

Good question. All the posts I've read in the hobby grade crawler forums refer to it as "front dig" I guess because the front tires dig there way around!!??

OK here’s an idea. If you eliminate the high range gear on the axle and attach a micro servo to the high/low switch to engage and disengage the remaining low gear in theory you just have front wheel drive and the rear would be able to free-wheel. Yes, you would need a 3 channel radio and the TQ3 with the thumb switch would be perfect.

That is what I did on my 1/18 tuber, only difference is the rear wheels lock when you shift the rear into high range. This helps the front end "dig" itself around. I never hooked a servo to it (got busy with other projects) but you can engage it manually and it works perfect. I can post indepth pics on how I did it later if you want. It is really SIMPLE!!

I'll do you one better. Mine has front dig and indapendant rear stear and it's easy to do. All it is is two sets of electronics in one vehicle and controller. Its been almost a year since I've even touched the thing. You put the extra circut board in the vehicle, you have to wire the second board to the rear steering of the axle, and the front motor. Then you set them to two different channels. Take the other remote board and wire it into the existing remote, I used some push buttons from radio shack to activate the other board. You solder some wires to the sterring controll and to the motor control to the buttons and your done. It's alittle hard to get every thing to fit but it works really good.

No sad face, just dealing with the wifes big anniversary plans. I'd be happy relaxing on the couch and drinking beer all weekend. Anyway, I survived the weekend and it was actually pretty relaxing so I can't complain.

I almost forgot about about doing a front dig. Now I know what to do with my third channel on my TQ3. Radio Shack here I come!

Got a question for ya all. Has anyone used the Traxxas 2055 servo on there rig running 2.2's? The Futaba's I'm using now suck I think they are FP-S148. I can get these 2055's for real cheap so if they are stronger than what I'm using than it will be worth it.

I have to thank Unholy for the idea on this one. I found a momentary switch from an old refrigerator. It has a pie-piece shaped switch that opens and closes the circuit and looks like it will be perfect for a servo horn to press on for activation. I'm using a TQ3 radio and have 4WS that I've used a splitter on the steering channel to run both of my servos so that left the third channel open. I'm going to use a Traxxas micro servo I have that I can activate with the thumb switch on the remote. So far in theory every thing sounds like it will work. The switch will cut power to the rear motor and lock the axle making the rear tires a pivot point. This will allow the front tires to pull the rig around an obstacle. This might put a lot of strain on the front axle but I think if the rear tires were free to role than it would not pivot. I'll try to remember to take pics. and let ya know how it works later.

Man that was easy!! All I had to do was use some servo tape and a zip tie to attach the micro servo to the switch. Then I just wired it in line with the red wire that goes to the rear motor and I was done! I mounted it to the back side of the rear steering servo with servo tape and it works like a charm but just as I thought ITS HARD ON THE FRONT AXLE. I was testing it on carpet and I heard a nice POP!! POP!! from the front end. Even with the "Getbent Mod" I think I will have to be carefull using the Dig.

Open: motor works like normal

Closed: Power is cut and rear axle locks up

Switch and servo mounted to back side of rear steering servo

I was surprised when I tested the Dig on my little coarse in the back yard. It does not come in as handy as I thought it would. But with the axle shaving I did and the few little tweaks I did on my rig over the weekend it's almost unstoppable now. It would walk right over rocks that I would cuss at before.

ive heard of people using a fidge switch and a servo to do a front dig....not sure how you could do it on a nylint though.:-P
