| To tap or helicoil?
Hello everybody, I just bought an used wraith off Ebay and it have vp aluminum axles housing.. On one side where it holds on c hub the thread is stripped out. I'm trying to decide if i should just tap it out to 4mm or if threaded insert is better idea? Thanks Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 |

I would just go to 4mm. Not sure there is really enough thickness to support a helicoil very well because you have to screw it in far enough for the c hub to slide over. If you do decide to use one, make sure you put some lock tight on it. You sure wouldn't want it backing out into your axles and getting in your gears.

If you have enough room I'd just tap it for 4mm if there is enough meat to make some good new threads. If not; then helicoil It. Just my $.03

Thanks sse and 1r3, There was enough meat to tap our to 4mm it went well vp aluminum is a bit hard to tap but that's good. That comment about depth with helicoil, good point i didn't think of that. Edited, Also it meant c hubs needed holes to be enlarged Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 Last edited by Nocturnalsixer; 05-19-2013 at 06:58 PM. |
