| Wheel mounted brakes
Hi peeps. Im currently toying with a wraith and have planned to fit a 1/16 nitro motor in the front/engine bay. my desire is to fit some working brakes into the front wheels and have them be servo operated, since the nitro motor has no "drag brake" and when idling, its a free rolling truck. ultimately if its too hard, i have the brake thats fitted into the main transmission but i was hoping for the cool/scale factor and wanted working brakes. I have seen one other person do it on an electric touring car with success, but he was running plastic knuckles and i have a set of alloy ones so cant really glue plastic to alloy and have it be reliably strong. Rothmans Ford Escort MKII / Test Vid !! - Scale 4x4 R/C Forums thinking ill likely have to revert back to the stock plastic knuckles. ill need to purchase some new ones tho as the old ones were shot... what are peoples thoughts on going back to plastic knuckles on a wraith vs alloy? |

Why don`t you build a small dynamo that runs on the nitro motor. Let the nitro motor run at a fixed rpm where the output electrical power of the dynamo is enough to power your wraith. This way you will have the battery type precise control on your wraith. Even a simple dc motor will work as a dynamo...try it out. Its fun ps: you will need some electronics to keep the nitro motor rpm constant in all conditions. As the motor draws more current, spinning the dynamo takes more energy...that also means the nitro motor stalls if its throttle is not adjusted in proportion to power requirement. I think I might have missed something there lol. Is it a "just coz I can" item to have the dynamo or is there a benefit? And then it may as well be electric?

Look into the Rc road bikes. There's a few company that make a brake calliper. They have pads and steel discs. Use a servo in the chassis and cable to operate.

Yea the pics I linked are using a venom gpv1 motorbike brake kit. I just havent had $50 to spend on the kit to possibly risk it not working due to the knuckles I have on the wraith.

Of course dynamo is electric. Its a dc power generator. You want to put in a fuel powered nitro engine into the wraith rock crawler..ryt? | |

| Re: Wheel mounted brakes lol.. Then things like heat, plastic chassis, centrifugal clutch, un-easy control etc came to my mind and hence I thought of putting in an idea to get good power from the fuel powered engine with good control. by the way to put a nitro engine in a rock crawler is a bad ass idea Keep it up I had it tinkering in my mind when someone here wanted a substitute to batteries since he din`t want to risk it with his sister who was newbie to crawling. |

I didn't even know small calipers like that existed ! That means I can follow through with an idea I have had with using brakes to engage a locker effect on a scale rig.
