Default scx10 axles for portals trade? worth it?

Looking for opinions. Thinking about a unimog build in the future. Have a lead on some portal (maybe) and was considering it. Doing some research but was looking for inputs from people with experience with both. Thanks in advance.

What portal axles you wanting to use? The SCX10 with Integy/3Racing portals or the R1 portals?
The Integy ones are weak, and the 3Racing units have a design flaw that doesn't allow the dogbone to sit deep enough and only runs on one dogbone pin on full lock.
None of the portals offer much lock without a full custom CVD install.

I appreciate the feedback. The portals I'm considering are the r1 portals with cvd mod. Does that improve the durability enough?

that says it all, stick with the Axials. way stronger and easier / better parts to beef them up

Cool. The portals are different and cool looking but I don't like the idea of having something that is going to break often.

I have axial's on my scalers and r1's on my crawler, the ri axles give you more ground clearance and less drive shaft angel. I have cv axles in the r1 and it steers good. you must be aware that anything can fail no matter who makes it or how much it costs. I don't abuse my stuff or ask it to do things it was not ment to. it's like asking a losi guy about associated, no matter what he will tell you to buy a losi. there is a lot of good stuff out there and a lot of junk,it depends what you want to do with it. a friend of mine breaks everything he owns no matter who makes it because he does not maintain it and try's to make it do things that it can't.

I agree with all of this. Bottom line is more the availability of parts. I see a lot more axial parts and upgrades available than gmade.
