| Sealed end bell motos in water
I run alot in creeks, silt gets dug up an sucked into my motors and locks them up, I can spray them with electrical cleaner and free them up, but eventualy I have to have them rebuilt ( I know a guy). But Ive noticed that a sealed end motor lasts longer under these conditions and is easier to unlock via electro cleaner. I have a basic Losi 55t bell end motor that I have locked up in a creek and sprayed it out over 20 times and it still works, why is this?

Are ya talking about "closed" end bell motors such as johnson silver cans... And the like? If so many of those have bushings and not bearings. They also are poorly made in the aspect of tolerances. They have quite a bit of slop for stuff to get in there and move around. Also the brushes are quite hard and take quite a beating. So if that's what you are referring to then it would make sense....... Cheap motor, bushings and the ability to be beat to death would survive such a experience. Problem is they lack in good tq, power, adjustability and the ability to be rebuilt. Or I'm an idiot and you have a magic motor...... Who knows. Lol Also you didn't need to post this in two different sections and or have two threads referring to same question. Last edited by JokersWild; 06-22-2013 at 11:18 PM. |

is the rotor locking up ? or is it just simply the bearings seizing ? I'd think that bushings would do better with contaminant intrusion... and with less chance of seizure... Cleaned and oiled often... keeps them living longer. Thing about bearings... is tho' they be more efficient (precision)... they weren't necessarily designed to be submerged in silt and mud. there are high quality sealed type bearings... but fine silt can get into just about anything ! maybe you can run a oiled foam cover over the mtr's endbell and it might filter some crud out ? |

My nephew runs a tamiya 540 silver can in his scx10 and runs through all kinds of nasty stuff and I baby mine and I have a 35t integy and its already locked up once. It does seem as if the closed endbell takes more abuse.
