locked diff ? I wanna convert my exo into a trail running ultra 4 thatll do semi crawling...im looking at locking the diffs do yall think I should lock the front and leave the rest open or lock the center and rear and leave the front open? |
Re: locked diff ? Lock the center and rear and run some really thick oil in the front. |
Re: locked diff ? If you lock the front, you lose turning radius. If you lock the center, you transfer all the force(s) of acceleration & braking directly to the drive line. A locked rear is fine. You lose a little turning speed, but no biggie. Run a heavy oil in the front diff, and a super heavy in the center. Keeping them unlocked will allow for all the advantages of a differential, but the heavier oil will keep things "locked" similar to a limited slip diff unit. If any of the wheels get bound up, jammed in the rocks, etc, you'll still have the differential movement to keep from destroying your entire drivetrain. |
