Any reason you recommend a shafty first?

In my view, a shaftie "makes you think" a bit more. If you can do well there, it's an easier transition to a MOA (if you chose to).

My son started with a Venom Creeper in 2.2P, once he moved to an XR-10, it was a ton easier for him.
His Creeper experience helped with 1.9 comp rigs.

I messed with his Creeper early on, then he built me a 2.2P with Bully axles and a servo dig to start with.
Running an XR-10 now with a radio doing dual ESC mixing has made a huge difference to me.
Granted, the rig is still WAAAYYYY better than I.

IMO the only reason to go MOA over shafts is if your local club doesn't run shafts (2.2s). No local club no worries, get a shafty! It's not like driving a MOA rig is more fun. You will see many argue the shafty is more fun, but I don't see any "shafts are boring I need my mixing and dual digs to have fun bashing".

I always felt ( and still do) that the MOAs and shaftys needed to be in separate classes. The final nail in the coffin at my club was when the MOA's showed up. They have amazing performance, and in the hands of a skilled driver, are nothing short of unstoppable. The $$ needed to build a MOA just put it too far out of reach for a lot of people.

I already had too much tied up in a shafty, I wasn't about to do it all over again on a MOA rig.
