Home built tuber questions
 

Ive built a few before, brake line, solid steel, and one out of brass. My question is has anyone made one out of aluminum tube/rod? I have a tig at work and wana try it. Super light weight frame, keep all the weight super low. Will be a 2.2 ax10 based setup.

All opinions welcome.

I brazed a mud truck a while back, held up great. Tig,'ed would be freaking sweet. Used .035 wall tubing from the lhs. Used a cheap harbor freight tubing bender.

You used .035 aluminum? Thats pretty dam thin lol What dia.? I want to make sure itll hold up to rolling down a hill when i flip.

I believe the aluminum tube that most hobby shops carry is from K&S metals and is 3/16 OD and is .035 or .037 wall thickness. Most of the smaller diameters that are used in rc, and keep the scale appearance are not going to be thick walled tubing. Most hobby shops that carry it, use it for detail work and scratch building railroad parts so it doesn't need to support major loads.

Maybe check online at onlinemetals or K&S for something a bit thicker of your worried it won't holdup to abuse.

I work at a local hobby shop, i know all about k&s lol. i just have never seen it on a crawler before. So not sure if it will handle bouncing down a hill. My brass one did ok only solder joints failed lol (just wanted to try it)

On my mud truck I used 3/16 tubing. Everything was pretty well triangulated, and protected by the body, the stuff that wasn't bent lol.
