| Carbon fiber steering links
Has anyone tried them yet? I know it wont take the side impact like aluminum would but I am thinking of using carbon fiber tube as a tie rod on my Berg comp rig. Lemme hear your thoughts. Thanks |

It will not last. Upper links maybe, not on steering or lowers.

Any sort of real impact and you'll be wishing you have an aluminum one. Its just not somewhere you can save weight by using cf.

I have had no issues with the stuff. All its doing is covering the allthread. I would just not use it for lowers. Delrin or stainless steel would be better to slide over rocks much easier. I use stainless, slippery as snot. WAY better than the aluminum ones. The carbon fiber only cost like $7 for a 3' stick at the LHS. You would pay about that much for a 2' piece of stainless at the hardware store. The black does look good though. The only thing I would say is cut the stuff with a dremel. It frays easily if you try a tube cutter (newbie mistake).

Thanks for the input, I have them as my upper links now and really like them. I had my doubts about using them for steering but wanted to see what people may have been through with them. I have used delrin and aluminum, and only problem with delrin is that it flex's. |

I say no...they would not be worth the trouble...metal would put weight on the front tires for max grip.

Back when I started crawling I sleeved 4/40 all thread with carbon fiber tube. The tube broke apart really easy after a few encounters with the rock face.
