| Turning a Hitec 5645mg into a winch... but....
I think something is wrong.... I followed the steps that the guys at my LHS gave me, put it all back together and plugged it into the steering slot on my rx just to test it and it doesn't spin freely. it still turns like a steering servo... Left...Stop. Right...Stop. release, centers. Is it behaving this way because it's hooked into a steering slot? |

Sounds like you didn't get the limiting pin out of the main gear. The fact that it is connected to the steering channel makes no difference. Give this a read, explains everything pretty visually. Another servo winch building tutorial -Jon |

You need to get a heyok winch controller. Here's a link for what you need. You will also need to remove the circuit board and pot. Just solder the wires to the motor in the servo plug in to your rx and your good to go. Don't forget a bec so you can regulate your voltage to 6 volts. There are good write ups on here for what you need to do just search for it. HeyOK Winch Controller for Radio with Two Position Channel |

i removed the limiting pin from the gear with the output shaft, I didn't think swapping the controller would be necessary... I thought that was only necessary if you experience winch creep.

potentiometer is centered and the output shaft gear is glued to it, just like the guy at my lhs told me to do.

double check this thread to make sure you did everything right. I have done this mod multiple times and never had this issue. I have never glued the output gear to the pot. Crawler Tech: How to Build a Winch btw...this should be in electronics - |

I will say though, the best way IMO to do this mod is with a Heyok. With your method the servo WILL creep on you even if you get it perfect, after some good use. No glue, no fuss, no creep and high voltage...Heyok all the way - Last edited by TOMCAT18T; 02-26-2014 at 10:18 PM. |

You need to have it installed on a 3 pos channel on your rx, which would give it out, stop, in. A steering or throttle channel is not capable of that "stop" signal.
