| What makes a crawler so heavy?
Is it the added features and scale items? Or Is it the fact alot of the plastic parts are replaced with Metal pieces? Seems like adding 4 pounds or so to a wraith to get near the 10lb mark is a lot of stuff on it. |

Alum wheels, weights in the wheels, winches, accessories, aluminum C's and steering knuckles. It all adds up quickly. |

Consider that a full size rig would weigh well over 2000lb's - a true 1/10 scale rig should weigh about 200.

Not necessarily, 1/10 scale means the measurements are scaled to a tenth of what the 1:1 counter part is. So, let's say that (X) is our 1:1, and (Z) is our 1:10. If X's wheelbase is 123" (V) and it's width is 90" (Y), then V/10 = 12.3" and Y/10 = 9". Now each measurement is 0.1 of X's, combine the scales 0.1 • 0.1 = 0.01. This makes a 1:10 scale over all 0.01, or a hundredth, of its counter part's size. This means that a 2000 pound vehicle's 1/10 scale counter part should way 20 lbs. assuming that the components weight and size are rational. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

Shouldn't it be scaled by 1000 (i.e. 3 dimensions x, y, and z)? That would mean a 2000 lb crawler would be a 2 lb RC. A real truck is much heavier, say 5-6000+ lbs. Scaling that down gets really close to RTR weights. In my estimate most RCs are ridiculously overweight, and wheel weight has a great deal to do with that. My LCC has 1.5+ lbs of weight in all four wheels combined. That would be over 1500(!) lbs on a 1:1.

Kind of glad someone here is talking about the weight factor of their rigs, mine's really heavy and wasn't sure if I over built it or not.

My rig has mostly plastic and weighs close to 7lbs. It started out as like 6.4lbs but 4ws with the extra servo and BEC Pro and universals added a lot. I am not like most people. I didn't go aluminum crazy when I got the money. I built my Wraith for 6 months before I drove it. I went for High end electronics. My rig is very light and pretty peppy. So like others said its when you trade your plastic for a stronger aluminum, it will add some weight. The scale stuff isn't even an ounce. Also things like a big 5000mah 3 or 4 cell battery is A LOT HEAVIER than a 1300 mah 2cell. It can add up quick but if your like me it wont.

You know, I never thought about that I think you are right, I thought 1000 was a ridiculously high number but it makes sense. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

Not really many aluminum parts on mine except for CHUBS and knuckles so far. Mine comes from mostly the body and the mass amounts of scale things attached to it. I'm guessing it's going to weigh in at around 10 to 12 lbs. with electronics.
