| 2015 Competition Puller design poll
I wanted to get general input on our design direction for the 2015 puller design. With the addition of a CNC turning center at Holmes Motion Control we can easily prototype and bring new designs to production. So I've been thinking and I want your advice! Design 1- keep existing Puller 500 and 400 assembly method, using screws that pull the faceplate and endbell together. This is less expensive and lighter, but different to assemble than regular brushed motors. Fine timing adjustments are done by rotating the can in relation to the endbell and faceplate, larger adjustments require changing cinch screw holes. Design 2- Use a "timing ring" like typical hobby brushed motors. It will add about $10 to the final cost and a few grams. The benefit would be familiar assembly with quicker timing adjustments over a larger range. All timing adjustments are done by rotating the endbell in relation to the can. What say you? Feel free to post other thoughts you may have. |

I like design one better because it fits the theme of a light weight motor better, and the reduced cost is a benefit. Also, how often are you guys changing the timing on these motors to make the second design neccesary? |

People hardly ever change timing, but it is just a bit more fiddly for most people to assemble with through-screws. I'm doing the CAD work right now to see how much of a weight penalty it is. There are a few other design changes at the same time that will put us at a net reduction of about 14 grams.

14 grams is a decent savings on an already light motor |

Cinch screws and a small half sheet instruction showing timing changes directions?

The work so far. We also have a sealed face and endbell design that can finally be made. After this we will make a sealed scaler motor. Upload errors, I guess its a teaser... Last edited by JohnRobHolmes; 06-06-2014 at 11:11 PM. Reason: upload error |

Less weight doesnt trump ease of adjustment in my book. Unless its an ounce or more weight diff.

Hey, I figured out how to combine the best of both! I'll report back in a few weeks after we cut some out.
