Can anybody tell me how to or what to use to drill out an Axial ring gear??

I bought a set of 300's in like new condition with the locker but when I went to assemble a new front axle the dang shaft won't fit thru the ring gear. AHHHH!

A little assistance please.
If you don't have any big boy tools a carbide bur on the dremel will work.

I'm in for a couple of sets if John runs a few. Depending on price I'd be down for 10 or 20.

I totally agree! I like the Dlux stuff as much as the next guy, but these are precision machined 300M goodness. I also love the wide flats for the locker. I say get some bushings turned and keep these bad boys alive

Judging by the response, john, you may need to make about a thousand of them, not hundreds.

For othet parties that are interested, please spread the words to let John knows it is worth while to persue this.

Shoot fire, just build the whole axle assembly. Really though I am down for a few sets. I foresee people stocking up on these if you run some. They are like finding chicken teeth!

For those with automated lathes these would be easy to produce. The problem is that the steel U cross has pegs that are not all the same OD. I made a set of bushings that were good to begin with (here, post 203-205) but some bushings fit the pegs better than others even when bored in the same pass. The variability in these universals means custom bushings for each set for perfect fit. But you don't need perfect fit necessarily. They are a wear item and will show daylight after 5 packs anyway. I've beat mine since mid Nov 2013 and they have a couple months left in them..but I put many, many hard miles on my rig.

My machine ain't auto' so I'm not interested in production. If I did I'd charge no less than $5 per bushing ($40 per set) and, even when made of the right stuff, guys would still not be happy with the wear rate. Stick with soft material and preserve the axles. They are one of a kind. The bushings are disposable.

FYI SDS is not in the parts business any more. We are on our own.

J

Send JRH the complete axles. He will want to spec and test fit them himself.
