I have spoken to JRH and he has already received the shaft, so hopefully we will have the replacement bush soon. Amen.

Had em slated for when I got back from training, well I returned to find a worker quit and had to spend the week interviewing instead of doing productive things. So I'm a few weeks in the hole on these fun projects unfortunately.

JRH,
If you are otherwise occupied I'm happy to pick this up.
Just let me know.

For those of you looking for bushings for the knuckles and C's because you are tired of wasting the 6x11 bearings with your monster power:

I'm just waiting on the groove tool, should have arrived already but I'll need to prod the salesman I think.

alright, got the grooving tool in late last week and everything is ready. Since I can't let the machine sit idle we have a few more jobs in process before switching out headstock liners and inserts for this job. I priced bearing bronze instead of brass and it would have almost tripled the price because of commonly available raw stock plus additional machining time. I'll be looking further into this to see if anybody (trustworthy) makes a suitable raw stock size of bronze, although my studies pointed to brass being a better choice of material when no lubrication is present.

Now the only tough thing will be catching the parts without losing them inside my machine!! We have the lathe apart today for cleaning, so I'll have to do some poking around to see if we can shore up some of the crevices in the parts catcher.

I estimate about $15 for 4 parts. Once I get the machine running I'll have an exact figure and start a sale thread. We have enough material to run about 1400 bushings.

Any update for this? Will that be a one-off run or it will be a steady supply of these?

Lathe has been down for a week and a half, air compressor went out. Got that fixed yesterday. Back up compressor wasn't enough for back up duty. So I have another compressor ordered to ensure it doesn't happen again, and the regular one is becoming the back up.

I'll use all the material I have on this run. If we run out I'll make more.

So in the evening of my last post I went to the shop to start getting through work that had piled up. Started dialing in tolerances, then made a stupid programming mistake that hard crashed the machine. So its been down and is currently taken apart to replace the stuffed subspindle. Replacement subS came in today, tech will start the installation either tomorrow or Monday. Should be running again by next Wednesday at the latest. I may push these parts to the front of the line since they will be fast to make and I can program another part while it runs.

Being my own machinist really puts the difficulty in finding a good shop into perspective. Never take a quick and quality shop for granted, the smallest of mistakes can bring production to a halt!

By Christmas quite likely. Machine has been operational for about two weeks now and I should have the last contracted parts rolling off Monday. Then I can change out liners and run some dang bushings!

Got my lathe tooled up and the stock chucked in today I'll have em for sale within a day too.

I chose brass instead of bronze since it is unlubricated. The brass has more lubricating properties and won't wear on the steel parts as much as bronze will.

Here you are folks, before christmas

Holmes Hobbies LLC

The material used is a half hard 360 brass with 45kpsi yeild, 3x harder than plain brass. Since these bushings are being used in an environment without lubrication it is important to have lead in the material for self lubricating properties, which will prevent galling and wear on the steel parts. I'm sure JeepinDoug's bronze bushings will also work well, I will be interested to see reports of how the steel fairs against 510 in this application.

I will keep these in stock at all times, we will be creating a new Drivetrain category for the website this weekend.
