Question Yeti Killer: How Would You Build It?

I know this sounds crazy: I like the new Voodoo U4 rubber so much I want to build something like a Yeti...but better...just to have a reason to run those tasty skins. Plan is to go BIG and make POWAH for blasting around catching air and doing stupid stuff that breaks parts...but still be able to handle climbing and bouncing.

It takes me a while to build because I have a limited amount of play money so while I am getting my shizzle ready to drizzle I thought I'd start doing research on Yeti Killers.

What better way than to pick YOUR BRAINS

How would you build your Yeti Killer?

1/8 scale buggy front end, twin force rear end, 1/8 scale buggy tranny, connect the dots. I've actually had all those parts sitting around for at least 4 years now, just never made it happen.

Fair enough. I don't seem to find what I am searching for when I search for stuff here. Maybe I should search for the thread that details how to effectively use the search

Jason,

You should do it. I did something similar but a little more bizarre a few years ago.

Get a 1/8 scale buggy, lock all the diffs, cut the rear bulkhead off and mount it to the chassis with a 4 link. 4 wheel independent suspension with an articulating rear "axle". Was a blast to drive but did not hold up to the beating i gave it for too long. If I had it to do over again I would use beefier trans and stretch the rear end.

Follow the link for before and after photos.

That's exactly what popped into my head too. 1/8 buggy with a twin force rear axle grafted on would be about as tough as you could get without going full custom and making all your own parts.

and you might like this. did this at least 4 years ago when all the slashes were coming out. its an SC truck, but could easily be converted to a more scale truck...

there were lots of itterations as i built it. its got a Mamba Monster and all open diffs, but could easily be re-engineered for slower speed. thing is a blast on a bmx track, and tops out at about 35-40 on the gearing i have it

a couple shots, and here is the build link. its old, but still one of my favorites to bash around.

1/8 buggy converted to rear 4-link - RCShortCourse

one bad grainy video...

I'd build it 1:7 scale, no tub chassis...all tube.

My head is full! Great ideas and build threads. I book marked them. Love the idea of repurposing buggy parts. I think the 17" wheel base on the Mad Hammer is a little huge for me though...love the cantilever rear suspension on the Mamba Monster...that's an amazing amount of travel. I am fixated on tube frames...gotta nut up and learn me some brazing skills one of these nights.

This has opened my eyes to a bunch of new parts to get Frankenstein with. Thanks!

the twin force width would be just about right, you would have to use two short sides for that though. they come stock with a long side and short side. two short sides and a wheel with the correct offset would be just about perfect.

makes me want to rebuild mine with a tube frame too. god knows i have enough projects, might as well make another one.

check out the twin force section for lots of ways to use the twin force axles, and also take a look at supershafty.com Rick has all the parts to mod the axles any way you want, and since the internals are interchangeable with 1/8 buggy stuff its easy to get the gearing int he axles to work.

only bad part about the buggy is that it sits at a rather low ground clearance to start out. maybe around an inch at the center.
