Did you already buy it or are you looking to buy it from someone?

Looks like a nearly box stock RTR (ready to run) AX10. Pretty good rig to start out with and get into the hobby. Sky is the limit as far as hop up parts, but there is a lot of basic mods that can be done cheap or free. With the correct set up and driver this is still a pretty capable comp rig, as well as fun just to drive around the yard or park in stock form.

Looks like the original ax10. I scored one of these for $20 only thing it needed was an esc and battery. If you can get that one for a good price it will be a great intro rig. There's endless info on rcc for what you can do. Just search and read for hours.

Looks like it already has some basic mods like battery on axle and comp tires (Panthers?), I'd have a look at the servo and see if it can handle crawling in terms of torque and construction (steel gears) and get some softer springs if you want any droop at all. The Scorpion shocks are 130mm and run some stiff springs...I was not able to get a decent set up with them. I'm not that fond of the Scorpion chassis but it does have a range of adjustment....I just couldn't get the kind of set up I like with those stock shocks. I like the powertrain and the front axle with a universal has amazing steering angle once you do mods to use Wraith knuckles and c hubs. A lot of potential in those axles.

he is just wanting to get into a crawling & not sure if he wants a Crawler or Scaler..... he is on a budget so he's wanting more advice on which way to go & what to look for when starting out... I gave my opinion & said he should ask here for some others.. I live fairly close & have offered for him to try out my SCX-10 so he can see if he likes it. but Ive sold my ax10's & XR10... So I cant let him try one of those. Maybe we can find someone in the boise aria that has an AX10 that he could check out.... maybe make a post here http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/idaho/ & see if anyone has a crawler you can try out... Might be worth a shot. Last edited by airdreams1; 07-29-2014 at 11:45 AM. |

Easy enough to convert the AX-10 to an SCX if he doesn't like it.

Looks like an AX90011 RTC, the wife bought a pair of those for her and I. Looks like somebody took the battery plate off the top and put it on the front axle. Pretty stock otherwise, right down to the Pro-Line Hammer tires. Only did a few light mods while I was comp'ing with it. Then the bug really hit and I went pretty well whole-hog. The wife didn't like hers, so I took it and cannibalized it to make my CUCV. For JUNKFOOT, I went with a TCS X-Trail chassis, and the Scorp/SCX drivetrain. (and a few seriously custom parts) So it's a pretty versatile rig, really. Needs very little to be enjoyable. If I had bought that rig, my first 5 mods would be -CC BEC -3S LiPo -35 turn motor (mine had stock gearing of 14/87, which was fine, IMO, maybe go up to 16/87, if you want) -stiffer steering linkage and a better servo -bottle of oil for refilling the (all but guaranteed) leaky shocks. Pretty neat little rig, I think you should get it. |
