Default Burning Out Motors

I am new to RC and i have an Axial Wraith that is mostly stock. I am wondering why i keep burning out motors. Is it normal to go through a lot of motors? I have the stock ECS and a 2s lipo and i have burnt out the stock motor and one other 55T brushed motor. Am i driving it wrong? Just not sure if this is normal or what?

There are some good threads on rcc addressing this issue. Search for them.

That being said, the stock wraith is geared pretty tall so dropping the pinion down to 13t or so would be a good start. Also, check your driveline and make sure it spins freely and nothing is binding.

If you're wanting a nice setup for crawling, follow the above advice and get yourself a nice 35t or 45t rebuildable motor. Holmes hobbies and Tekin would be great starting places. For something slightly cheaper but still rebuildable, you might consider an integy lathe.

Search for motor care and break-in threads and read up on how to care for your new motor.

Hopefully this advice helps get back out on the rocks soon

This is NOT normal!
Just to be clear: The stock motor is 20T, not 55T.
If you were able to fry even a 55T motor at the same gearing I'd urge you to check the gear mesh! (The cardinal newbie problem, speaking from personal experience... )
With the motor and pinion mounted you should be able to wiggle the spur gear a little without rotating the pinion. If the pinion and spur gears are too close, pressing onto each other, the motor gets a lot of extra load and will overheat.
The car will also run slower and less responsive than it should.

Speaking of gear mesh and driveline friction, I have a bit of a rough spot in my axles, I think on the ring gear judging by how often it happens when I turn them by hand.

The input shaft is definitely seated down all the way. I feel like I'd pop the e clip if I pulled it down/out any harder.

Is this normal and okay, or am I goiing to end up with problems? I really don't know how I'd fix it unless the problem is poorly machined Chinese gears and I upgrade to better ones.

Thanks.
