| New crawler
So I have been out of the crawler scene for several years. I picked up a losi night crawler for my oldest boy for his birthday this past fall. I recently started messing with it and that got me back into it. I want to pick up one for myself with tax money. It seems everything has gone to rock racers or scale trucks. What is everyone starting with for a platform for a crawler ? ax10 deadbolt ? I want something that has good aftermarket support and good replacement parts availability. It seems the losi comp crawler,xr10 etc have all been discontinued. I think the night crawler is a good platform to start with but aftermarket parts availability is scarce. Thanks everyone ! Axial SCX10 deadbolt is like 300 bucks on tower. I love the platform, I have the Jeep version. Plenty of parts availability, and countless upgrades.

I am not really interested in the scale trucks. Thanks though.

Are you looking for a competition crawler or just something with big tires and lots of flex? I'd say meet in the middle and get the ax10 or wraith.

Yes something to do comps with. But nothing crazy. I am thinking a second gen ax10. I can't seem to find much else out there. Rc4wd did just come out with a new crawler though.

I just found out about their (RC4WD's) 1/4 scale crawler, and and holy hell it's huge! Not sure it's the best for getting back in though, I think your choice of the second gen is a good one. There isn't much on the market anymore for comp crawlers, it's all scale trucks or rock racers anymore, you can always make a custom crawler instead of buying one rtr or artr...

The gen2 AX10 out of the box is not to bad. You will need to swap out the motor and tires, and drop the battery down. If I am comping for fun, I bring the AX10 but if it is a real comp I bring the Losi. If you want to be serious about comping, I would pick up a set of SCX10 axles and do the XR mod, than pick a chassis that you like and build from there. |

wraith axles vs. scx10 axles width? The scx10 with XR mod is about 1/2" wider Last edited by rob5059; 03-08-2015 at 09:23 AM. | |

Never thought about doing the xr10 mod on my scx axles... Might have to try that out just for fun, if I like it than I'll pick up a new chassis and use Trex60's for my scx10 chassis. Thanks for the idea, rob5059.

Good idea rob5059. Maybe I will look into doing that. I will have to price it out and see how it works out versus buying a ax10 and addind scx axles and moding it. Probly cheaper to start with the axles and build from there. Are the chassis the same gen 1 to 2 or do I need to find a gen 2 specific chassis ?
