| Are bouncers still "in" ?
A few years ago, they were all the rage but i have noticed they have taken a back seat to U4 rigs.To me they are pretty much the same thing, tube framed,go fast,up hill fast.LOL.I used to have a bouncer and a friend made a trade with me,so i never really got a chance to "air" it out.Im contemplating building another one just like it but just not sure.I know,i know....build what makes you happy but im just sure. What say you.Discuss.Ill be following

I think U4 is a fad that will be out lived by a great looking bouncer but I could be wrong.

Since you are concerned with what's popular right now just build a U4 rig on some voodoo U4s. That seems to be by far the most common rig going right now.

If you're performance minded a bouncer probably isn't the right choice. Scale appearance will leave you wanting more up travel and less chassis weight.

U4 are the new bouncers. Bouncers were the new TTC TTC were the new truggies There seems to always be something new. Which is good!! Want to be ahead of the crowd? Build a class 3 (or 2) W.E. Rock Unlimted tube buggy... So old school it will be cool again! |

I think weight is the main drawback. 8 pound minimum means you have a real porker to push around and it's hard to get that to do what a 5 pound rig will do...especially if that 5 pounder has an optimized CoG. I'm toying with a Carbon Fiber rod chassis to get the best of both worlds. I don't run in competitions so rules are not that big a deal...I just like to have fun.

I love both of the styles. There is no question a truly scale bouncer will fair very poorly in U4 racing, but look bad a$$ running a rock hill at full throttle. I'd have to guess that the rock bouncer scene didn't develop fully due to cost. If you don't have the fab skills yourself and you're dropping $400-600 for just the chassis, not everyone will be jumping in. On the other hand, U4 racing has buy it and go race options with the Yeti and the Twin hammers. It has a better chance to stick around if it pulls in the racing crowd (SCT, buggy, etc) and they enjoy it like they do track racing. My Yeti is one of my favorite rigs to drive. Even racing a SCT track against other yeti's and some slower traxxas slash's is a friggen blast. It's all about having fun for me and if we can trade some paint, even more fun. Probably the thing I like most about U4 is that the rigs have a much higher chance of recovery having reverse and bigger tires. I've recovered my yeti when it's on it's side and didn't have to wait for a marshall. Huge advantage over other organized racing.

i just dont like the look of the typical bouncer. it feels like the offroad version of prostreet to me. u4 rigs look alot cooler and have that classic 4x4/baja style. |

If everyone wasn't in such a big hurry I'd compete in U4. |

Wow,all great answers everyone.I really appreciate all the responses.I mainly run for fun(just bashing)so a comp level rig doesnt interest me anymore.I used to be competitive with actual rock crawling but quickly grew tired of the atitude of "throw more money and high dollar parts at it and it might make me a better driver" atitude.I run with buddies at a local area that was a dirt pit.It has all types of terrain and steep hill climbs .As far as a U4 rig i could actually run my highly upgraded Wraith or my Wrexo.I love an IFS suspension now.My main thing is looks and not too terribly much about performance.I am also able to build some awesome tube frames,so a budget for fabrication isnt even in the picture. So i guess i have my answer.Im gonna build me another bouncer.Thank you one and all

Working on mine right now, it's a ways from being done, but it's in a running state for the next comp. I'm going to run it in our local 2.2 trail class. -Derek |

Who cares what is "in" or not? Build what you want to play with and enjoy it.
