Aoshima and RC4WD FJ40 bodies

Is there much of a difference between the 2 bodies size wise? And with RC4WD releasing the hardbody 40, will that reduce the value of the Aoshima 40 bodies?

5 years later and I am wondering the same question! I have the Aoshima FJ40 hard body. It’s been sitting on my shelf for almost 10 years, and I’m just now thinking about finally building it :)

I saw an Aoshima FJ body for sale at a 1:1 swap meet recently. It was beautiful 350 or 400 dollars too rich for my blood.

Were the Aoshima bodies from toy grade RCs? I don't remember ever hearing about them.

If you search hard enough, you may find some more info on these. "thumbsup"

I know they were super rare when I bought mine. I got it on the classifieds here at least 10 years ago. Unfortunately I never built it, as I moved, got a career, met a girl, got married, bought a house, had a kid.... Just now getting back in the hobby though, and need to decide if I should sell this thing and grab a new axial kit, or build it out...

I guess it would depend on how much you like FJ40's. Something is only worth what somebody is willing pay for it. To a collector, you may get what you want for it. On the other hand, you could have it up for sale for many years before somebody wants to buy it.

Personally, if I want to build something and it's exactly what I want, I don't care how rare it is, I will kit bash the heck out of it. But, that's me...8)

Btw the Rc4wd has a striking similarity to a Fj40, but is not. Its called a "Cruiser," lol. I know semantics... The Rc4wd version is 17.5" long, 11.8" wheelbase and 9.5" wide. Basicly perfect dimensions for a scx10 frame.

I have no Idea how big the Arimosha Fj40 is, as I have never seen that particular Unicorn.

I’m a huge Toyota guy, and back in the day this FJ40 body was the holy grail for me. So it would be really tough to let it go.

I pulled her out of the box and gave her a quick wash. This body is 16.75 long by 8.5” wide, with a wheelbase around 11”

It really surprises me that the RC4WD version is bigger...

A lot of the stand offs, mounting points, and general underside structure of that Aoshima look similar to the ebay 2door JK bodies... right?

Just curios to find more info on where those JK hard bodies originated from.

So if I were to buy the Gelande 2 chassis set, it would fit right under the Aoshima body? Nice to know :) I do want to build mine leaf spring though.

Thank you for the input Bruiser!

Re: Aoshima and RC4WD FJ40 bodies

I dont think that is correct.

I was involved in the development of the RC4WD body in 2013 and we did use the Aoshima body and 1:1 reference photos as guidance. If my memory serves me correctly then the Aoshima wheelbase is closer to the TF2 wheelbase of 287mm. The RC4WD body design was adjusted to fit the Gelande 2 chassis 275mm wheelbase (not my idea!).

At the time I wanted the new RC4WD body to fit the TF2 (Toyota) chassis but I was out voted in favor of the Gelande 2 (Land Rover!) chassis.

After so many years it's safe to say it didn't matter as not many people noticed the strange chassis choice :lmao:

So the TF2 or old Bruiser/Mountaineer chassis will be better for the Aoshima body. That's what most guys were doing with them before.

Dig this one up... I'm still a die hard 40 guy.. I have 2 1:1 40s and I have both the aoshima and rc4wd bodies.
If this is still applicable I can measure anything for anyone... I have both bodies on old school bruiser chassis
