| How should i maintain my truck after running in wet conditions?
Hi guys so I'm wanting to start running my scx10 in the snow this winter and mud next summer, but I'm also wanting to put various aluminum parts on it. Can it still be ran in these conditions with aluminum and steel parts on it (lockouts, hub carriers ect) without resulting in a rusty mess? If so how do you guys go about maintaining your vehicles after a nasty run to prevent rust and otherwise looking like crap

The aluminum parts are fine. I replaced all the screws with stainless from Team KNK and use CorrosionX on the steel, bearings and ball joints. If you don't already have one, invest in a small air compressor or even a shop-vac with an air nozzle tip. Getting your rig clean and dry after a run is the most important thing.

Fill your axial housings with marine grease. It will help keep out the water. Put grub screws in the open holes in the housings.

Before you run your truck in the slop cover the chassis in wd40. It makes clean up later easier.

| Re: How should i maintain my truck after running in wet conditions? Rust only refers to iron oxide. Aluminum does oxidize but it's protective and prevents further corrosion. The process of anodizing aluminum actually builds up a thick layer of aluminum oxide and allows dying, which is how we get all the nicely colored aluminum parts.

theres also stuff made for dirtbikes that works real well. wd40 will swell rubber and ive heard it will degrade plastic but ive used it. couple of my rigs are bare steel tho so i do it more for rust prevention, easy cleanup is just a bonus. to clean, hose it down then slather it with simple green and scrub it with a vegetable brush or sturdy bristle big paintbrush. | |
