Default cordless drill gearbox

Well ive searched quite alot and i have found very few results as for what im trying to do, yes i have used the search function but the posts i find are from many years ago and most of there pictures have been deleted. Basically what im looking for is which cordless drills have a 2 speed gearbox that use a 550 motor that is a easy unscrew the motor and put a new one on, I have a 12v and 14.4v dewalt drills but they use the much bigger sized motors and there gearboxes seem awfully big to fit into my scx10. I do love pictures and thanks to anyone in advance that can help me figure this out.

Never seen it done myself but why not!.. If i were you i'd look at the 10.8 volt gear - they have a much smaller body so should be more suitable.

My 10.8v dewalt is 2 speed. I know the makitas are aswell.

I'm not sure why you'd want to, when the HPI gear reduction box is only $20

Going slow is pretty easy. I still have a gd600 sitting around that'll make anything slow and worthless.

I remember when the dewalt drill setup was all the rage. It was big, heavy and pretty much worthless in the real world usage.

link please to the hpi part and i want the drill gearbox because it has 2 speeds all metal gears and bolts up to a 540/550 motor plus its a custom build and i want the motor up front and have the gearbox look like the transmission of a real truck im not worried about going slow or fast right now as i can always change the gear ratios in the gearbox or use a faster motor and it will add front end weight in a class 1 truck

I'd be all for seeing another neat drill gearbox rig. It's been a few years since I seen one and hmmm, I have an old drill sitting around. And axles... Off the the hobby cave!

A drill gearbox is a bad option for our rigs for a number of reasons. Problem one is that the output shafts are typically 1/2" (if I remember correctly). The second issue is that they typically have too much reduction to be put in front of a set of axles. The third is that they're big and are designed to fit in a case, mounting them to anything is not easy. That said, I would start with the cheaper drills like harbor freight. The robotic combat community has a lot of information on using drill gearboxes / motors for drive. Team Tiki also sells them: 19.2 Volt Robot motor – Used

X2, mostly just the robot guys using them these days, there are a couple other sites that I don't recall at the moment, but RC4WD, Vaterra, Axial all have nice two-speed transmissions available.

RC4WD TF2 single or two-speed tranny then.

I haven't thought about this thread in a long time:

building my own crawler

The motor talk starts in a page or two. Is that what you're talking about?
