Default Need Help

Hi am new to rock crawling a picked up a Nylint and have done a few mods 2 it, and just yesterday when i try and climb something the front wheels stop turning its like the motor is going bad, its like there isnt any power with it anymore. Also my steering doesnt work very good, its slow and sometimes doesnt work at all, it just makes a winey noise...If i could just get some help it would be appreciated....I hope to make rock crawling an essential hobby, i just need some time under my belt.

Regarding the steering, I bet the steering motor is running (that's the wining noise you here), but the plastic post on the left knuckle is just bending back and forth, which is why your wheels aren't always turning. There have been some recent threads on how to help and/or fix that, including aluminum knuckles.

A search using the Search tool should provide some good links on that.

your belt is slipping i bet

try taking the motor out, sanding the motor pulley, the planetary pulley, and cleaning the belt....

you can also get s slightly smaller belt, but that will make the weak link in the axles go elsewhere and you will break parts.....

some people have coated the belts with soda and let it dry before reinstalling, but that just sounds like a quick way to make a sticky mess inside the axles to me...

some people put the front belt in the back and get a smaller front belt, but when i had a front belt in the back of mine, i kept breaking the passenger side rear wheel hexes.....i still haven't fixed that yet, i need to find a piece of steel that will slip over the hexes

what if you rubbed like clear caulking or silicone on the belts to make em a little stickier? just a thought?

Or try some WD-40. It makes rubber softer. Just dont soak them in it. Spray some on a rag, then apply to the belt.

do all the generation models have belts?

I have a scorpion crawler that the front wheels don't pull like they use too.
as soon as they get to a obstacle they don't try to climb at all.

Holding the crawler in the air the front wheels turn. but any kind of strain they stop turning.

also anyone have a spare shock? I broke the top knuckle on one of mine.
(not while crawling)

yeah all generations have belts, though i think the older ones had tighter belts.

you may have broken the little pin in the axle that makes it turn under pressure. take the cover off the axle and see if it's broken off (it's a pin through the metal shaft on one side of the axle) if it's broken, replace it with a small drill bit or something of equal size and strength.

do you need a front or rear shock? if it's a rear that you need i can hook you up for cheap. pm me if you're interested

ok yes thats it. any clue how to get the old one out? thought they should just slide out but this one looks pretty beat up and is not sliding out.

Figured I'd ask before using force.....

It doesnt have to be tight, but you dont want it to be too small causing slack in the axle. By the way allen wrenches are great replacement pins. I replaced all of my pins with allens and havent broke one yet.

thats what I was gonna use, but then I came across the trying to cut a allen key or a drill bit. need a cut off wheel or something more then a hacksaw.

I found a wire coat hanger that was just barely smaller and that seemed to work good. see how long it last. then I'll go to a hardend steel
