| How to remove a threaded drive pin?
This is the second time I've had a steel drive shaft pin seize and strip the hex so it can't be removed. For clarity, I'm talking about the threaded pin that goes thru the drive shaft and transmission output shaft. The last time I had to grind off the MIP knuckle from the trans, then buy a new one. Any ideas on how to get the pin out or how to keep it from seizing. Thanks CG3 |

| Re: How to remove a threaded drive pin? Is there a good way to remove a broken/stripped grub screw? To keep it from happening in the first place I started using purple (low-strength) loctite instead of blue. Make sure everything is clean and dry before assembly, let cure overnight and nothing has backed out for me (yet). |

This happened to me last summer with an MIP driveshaft. I went down to the local Sears and craftsman makes a micro screw extraction kit that contains the necessary bits to extract a stripped screw. I used the smallest one in the kit which is the #5 (3mm). I put it in a small dewalt 12V drill and was able to work it out. The kit cost some money but it was worth saving the shaft and not having to replace the parts...just the grub screw. Good luck and take your time...patience is key in these situations. If you have loctite on them, heat them up with the tip of a soldering iron first. This will loosen up the loctite so they come out easier. Make sure you are using good quality hex tools. A bad tip will ruin many screws.

Thanks, I ordered the screw extractor set. We'll see if that works. CG3 |

I also use the larger pin that goes all the way through, on the supersize outputs. | |

I would use a drill press if possible. Try to keep the drive shaft from rotating my wedging it. Then maybe use a 2m bolt and nut? Hope this helps.
