Default Jato Rod End - odd balls?

I got my first pack of Jato rod ends today (traxxas 5525) and four of the balls are different from anything I've seen before. Is this just a different design or are they mis-formed? I don't have calipers right now to measure with but a ruler shows they're about 8mm tall.

Normal on the right, oddballs on the left.

Well I just answered my own question. Digging through some Google images shows that indeed some of the balls have a different design. Weird.

Traxxas does that so you can fine tune their independent suspensions slightly by using different hollow balls. My Revo uses 2 or 3 different offsets on the front and rear-ends. I thought they were kind of strange when I first noticed them too.

That's how they are supposed to be and I like them for fine tuning link placement (rod end mount width if double shear), great building and tuning tool.

^ Same as above responses, I used the shorter balls with my links to fit in the lower link mounts on the AR-60 Axles.

I like to use the taller balls when the link is in single sheer since the one end is too large for the rod end to slide off of. Saves me from using an additional flat washer that can get misplaced or forgotten.

That's what I was thinking they'd be good for, namely the steering tie rod ends. Those things always pop off if I don't have a washer under the screw head.

Yup and the opposite end of them is s bit taller so it eliminates the need for a spacer too.
