Thunder Tiger has got me one of these for review and testing. A big thank you goes out to them. These are due in the U.S. at the end of June.

I will update as soon as possible with an unboxing and running video.

Also here's the latest running clip from TT.

Right on, looking forward to some "real world" testing and feedback.

Looks like an OK trailer, but it's horrible on the rocks.

My stock Wraith struggled on some of that rock section depending on line chosen. Pretty much overkill for something 1/14 scale in all fairness. I wrote up a review but it was too many characters to post here. You can check it out on URC.

As an update, the plastic geared stock servo stripped out during pack 4. Upgraded with a cheap Power HD metal geared servo I had on hand.

Threw a 3S pack in the little guy today to see what happened.

Are the diffs built in such away that'd allow for a 6x6?

Not 100% sure on that. Never really looked at any 6 x 6 builds. Definitely not as easy as the Bomber, that's for sure.

Doesn't Thunder Tiger also own Associated Electrics?

Welp, I was going to pull the trigger and get one of these, but then the SMT10 dropped.

Kinda want one of these, not the most scale car around, but looks like good fun. Pricepoint is pretty good too. Gonna follow this tread

Are there room for a 540 motor in there? Are the diffs locked?

I don't know for sure, but I saw people on Facebook complaining that they couldn't use a 540 motor. It's possible they didn't know what they were talking about though.

I'd be amazed if it didn't come with locked diffs.

Diffs are indeed locked, not sure on the 540 motor tho. I'll look into it my self when I get a moment.

540 motor most definitely won't fit. There's not much room for going bigger than stock in diameter.

These are for sale in the U.S. finally.

Holmes Hobbies makes the 380 motors if that helps

Thanks to WT's Pauly for hooking me up with one of these.
Not my usual Crawler type RC so there won't be any big builds just some bolt on stuff here and there.

I ordered a new Clear body to one change the color to you guess the color and run some more appropriate rims and tires. The new body will need some trimming or a small Comp cut and a quick WB change by 5mm in the front.

1.5 RC3WD Beadlocks and Rock Stompers. Had these so long I forget what I had them on.

Almost forgot the most important upgrade like body lines and busted out the old sharpie trick.

">
">
">

100% box stock. I wanted to see what it does in order to decide which way to go with upgrades. Just doing the basics for right now.

Part 1 is on the easier side of my rock pile area. More appropriate for the scale of this thing. Part 2 and 3 are were i normally ran my Wraith and SCX.

After today's run I am actually impressed for the asking price and intended market.

ESC
The biggest problem I see with this as a scale crawler is the ESC. While I was able to kinda manage it, the brake and double tap reverse that Pauly also mentioned is beyond shit. I am spoiled with my Castle MMP and Holmes Hobbies BRXL. The forward and reverse power come on way to harsh and fast. For putting around the yard or doing trail work the ESC is perfect for that.

Suspension
Rear articulation is great and does not need more droop. Front is great on droop but terrible on compression. I now know why they put fuel tube limiters on the shocks. While running a full size servo that is more powerful than a micro or mini it is not ideal at this size. The frame hits the servo ears about 10mm before full compression hence the fuel tubing limiter. I have a remedy that I'll post once my new Power HD servo comes in.

Battery
Stock size of 2S and 850mah gives plenty of power and I got 19min of crawl time with it. I put in a 3S and wow it has some pep on 3S. The placement with it being in back is typical RTR affair but even at 850mah the weight is too much for vertical climbs. I have a remedy that will cost about 50cents and some time. Putting the battery weight over the front axle will help the vertical climb ability but also balance out the whole RC for just poking around.

Steering servo
Went in thinking that 48oz-in of TQ and .19 speed was laughable. It was don't get me wrong but well suited for these tires. The plastic gears? Not so much. Stripped it off camera on the way back to the truck. I will be running bigger and heavier tires later in but even with those I think 100oz-in is plenty.

Tires
From my past rigs I have become kinda a tire snob. I know what works and is pathetic on the rock terrain I have. For RTR tires these are actually really good. Not perfect but damn good. Good on the rocks and good on the dirt. If they weren't so small in the looks department I'd continue to run them. 31's on a 4" lifted JK just doesn't cut it for me.

Would I recommend it? So far, Oh you bet. For the price of entry it is very capable, looks good and the most important part it is REALLY fun. Great RC for the kids or your backseat when you need a quick RC break.

More to come from this little RC for sure

For those curious on how the bottom of the axles look after my first run.

I didn't like the goofy spur gear below chassis level which is highly unconventional. I had reservations going in so I have a few mods in mind to remedy it Just Incase it was a problem. I didn't really feel like it was hanging up during the run and the pic shows the damage as to how much. Very surprising actually.

I've got a Kaiser XS on the way. Anyone know any definite upgrades I should look in to or just leave stock? I'm fairly new to it all. I saw people listing the Power HD Servo's for durability. Where's a good place to buy parts?

For example:
Power HD 1501MG Metal Gear Servo | Value Hobby

This? Or what should I be looking at?

Thanks.

Congrats on the new rig.

Definite Upgrades? What did you take from what i wrote? Upgrades will all depend on your experience and what you expect out of this particular Scalish RC. The aftermarket is nill so you may be limited and will have to franken mod what you want to change if something is not available.

I have some experience and i am changing the following in order:
#1 Upgraded Servo. I put in the same one you mentioned. Cheap and 80% more TQ than stock will set this RC up to run even 1.9's if they fit.
#2 Drag and Tie link to Alum or Steel w/3mm Hardware
#3 Full Upper and Lower Links to Alum or Steel w/3mm Hardware
#4 Shocks 85-90mm max w/3mm Hardware
#5 Rims, Tires and Foams or at least weight the stockers
#6 Battery Forward Mod
#7 ESC
The rest is up to you as far as scale stuff, bumpers, LED's etc.

There are very few online dealers but Fleabay Thunder Tiger Kaiser XS | eBay also has parts. WT's Pauly on this thread might have some info on where is the best place to get parts. Overall the Thunder Tiger line is a very robust RC so in stock form it is pretty good.

Hope that helps a little and if not PM me if needed.
