Here's my newest work in progress again. Details in my signature. Who else has a Bug in the works?

Well I'd say its done already but are they ever?

Build thread here

I just got some fresh shots at Proline By the fire last weekend, very cool event if you can make it definitely do it! At the show and shine the judges picked up my car to check it out which was nice but theres a ton of competition with way more detail. I'll have to make up a half interior or something to be able to compete. Anyway at the end of the day I dont really care as much about awards, I made this to be lightweight and to have great approach and deparcher angles and it is and does.

Its a Tamiya Sand Scorcher body and because I've cut the fenders I've been able to stretch the wheelbase to 265mm where it would typically be 250mm I believe. Without the cut fenders you'd likely need smaller tires (mine are 4" Pitbull PBX's). You could say its SCX10.2 based (chassis, tranny, narrowed Beeftubes axles and skid) but it took many custom 3D printed parts and a lot of adjusting the drivetrain and links to get everything to fit. Theres very little room left clearance wise.

Looks great! I need to figure out an interior for mine as well. Not much room for one with that bug transmission sitting in the middle though. At least you've got a driver. That really adds to the look. Love your 3D printed parts as well. Another great looking bug.

Carisma M10DT. If you can find one. Or check this out. https://www.facebook.com/pg/mlcfiber...51494191697971. I've got one. Build thread in my signature. TRX-4 starts around post 76.

I'm hesitant to necro a thread for a question but I think this might actually be a good place to ask. How similar are the Tamiya Sand Scorcher and M-Chassis "standard" beetle bodies? Like proportionally speaking, are they in scale with each other?

Sand Scorcher wheelbase: 250mm

M-06 Beetle wheelbase: 239mm

Rally Beetle that uses MF-01X chassis is the same as the M-06.

I'll bet they are extremely similar, because the fender openings are relatively small on the full-fendered non-Scorcher shells, so the wheels need to be dead center to not foul the lip...

Whereas on the Scorcher the wheels can be pushed away from the center of the wheelbase a bit since the fender openings are larger and flared.

Side shot of Scorcher shows that the wheels are not perfectly centered:

That's great info, appreciate it, its possible the wheelbase difference is solely due to the fender differences. I wonder how close the bodies are in the other dimensions. Like a pillar to c pillar, overall height, length of the roof etc. I've got a project in mind that would combining features of a standard beetle and a baja beetle.

Yes, I know it's an ancient thread... But it was pulled up again this year, so I don't feel toooo bad.

Anyway - I just finished a Beetle build using the Tamiya Sand Scorcher Beetle body on a Northwest Scalers Designs (NWSD) chassis. Powered by a HH 2500kV Snubnose Revolver with a Castle Micro Mamba X ESC and TGH T210 OD trans. MIP shafts, NSDRC RS1 1300 in/oz servo, short Dravtech shocks, and Axial stock axles for now...

I built the bumpers using 3/16ths steel rod and 1/8th inch steel strap, except for the rear mounts, which are also from NWSD.

I have closed up the cabin with .020 aluminum roof flashing, and am working on finishing up the interior with figures and a powered dash. The interior pieces and body are held on with Velcro.

Brad

Build thread here.

It has Capra axles & links, and soon will have Vanquish axles & internals.

Surprised no one mentioned the 1:12 RocHobby Type 82E 'Kommandeurswagen'

Remains to be seen if we can get some hop-up items or those balloon sand tires they used in North Africa.

Here's my Element RC Enduro Trailrunner Baja, initially built in July 2020. It's an odd build, because it's still setup for trailing, with brushed electronics, but looks like it could bash around. The RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja Pro X 1.9 Scale Tires are very beefy and look great, but are a little too wide for crawling efficiently. One major plus attribute is that they raise ground clearance, which the IFS struggles with. I'll probably keep it status quo for now.
