While good for its time by modern standards its a fairly inefficient design. The spur gear is the differential and as a result you have two complete sets of three gears (six total) to the transmission output. The gears were not supported very well and I believe tended to strip under high loading. The differential served double duty as diff and slipper clutch but in order to allow some slip you ate diff balls and rings regularly. For a crawler you would most likely lock up the diff action. Parts for the stealth trans are fairly easy to come by but for the origonal trans ebay may be your only option. |

Like Ligourird said...avoid them. The internal gears wear metal and very rough machined and to work smoothly they need to be broken in with toothpaste or polishing compound and an electric drill for like an hour and then dissassemble, clean and reassemble with lube. Still not good by modern standards and heavier and bulkier.

For the price of a stealth you might as well get a newer one. I am sold on them..
